8009592250 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 8009592250 👆 is reported as a number associated with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Debt Management Call Centre, primarily for personal income tax collections. While some users confirm it is a legitimate CRA contact, many warn of sophisticated scams involving callers posing as CRA agents demanding personal information like date of birth, home address, or Social Insurance Number (SIN). The CRA itself advises never to provide SIN over unsolicited calls and recommends verifying by calling official CRA numbers listed on the government website. Genuine CRA calls typically ask only to confirm basic details and advise contacting them via official channels. Users share that scammers may mimic CRA call procedures, including automated prompts, to deceive. Caution, independent verification, and avoiding giving out sensitive info to unsolicited callers is strongly advised.

This woman kept insisting she could only speak to my husband and wanted him to ring back with his National Insurance number. I told her nope, if it’s really the tax people, they should call him on his own phone. Then she claimed she didn’t have his number and asked if I could give it to her... but I’m pretty sure the genuine tax office already does. Definitely a scam, so I told her straight up and she abruptly ended the call.

This number is definitely the CRA's collections department. It’s not some scam. After I got the call, I rang the CRA myself to check and it turned out to be genuine. I don’t get why loads of people here are saying it’s fake, it really isn’t! If you’re unsure, just ring the official number yourself instead of relying on a quick Google search.

I got a call from this very same number recently. The woman on the line sounded really polite and professional, spoke perfect English, so I wasn’t immediately suspicious of her being a scammer. She asked me to give my phone number and date of birth, but I refused and told her I’d ring back to check if she was genuinely from CRA. She gave me the same number to call. When I rang, it just played a recorded message from a collections agency. I then Googled the number and found out it’s linked to scams. I’m waiting for her to call again just to be sure. I also chatted with my accountant about it, and he reckons it’s probably a scam.

Got a ring from a woman claiming she was from the CRA asking for my date of birth and home address. I asked her for her address and DOB instead, and she cut the call straight away. She sounded quite proper too, these scams seem to be getting a bit more polished and their English is really good now. Watch out, folks!

Just got a call about 5 minutes ago, around 6 pm. The woman on the line immediately asked for my personal details. Then she mentioned that the CRA is open till 11:30 pm, which honestly made me suspicious right away - felt like a scam to me.

I missed a call from 18009592250 earlier today. There was a voicemail from a woman who said she was from some sort of collections agency, I think she called it CRA collections or something similar. Her accent was really heavy, so it was hard to make out exactly what she was saying. She told me to ring back on the same number and have my Social Insurance Number ready to verify my account. Seems odd to me since they’d presumably already have that info. Feels like a scam, so I’m definitely not calling back.

I got a call on my mobile from a person speaking with an East Indian accent, asking if my husband was there. I just said they had the wrong number. My dad used to be with the CRA for more than three decades and he always said they’d send letters, never ring you up. So, please don’t share your personal details on the phone!

THIS NUMBER IS ACTUALLY FROM THE CRA!!!

I was first phoned by this number and someone claimed to be from the CRA. I came here and saw loads of people saying it was a scam, so I started ignoring their calls. Then a few months later, I found out that my wages were being garnished and my bank account was frozen. When I asked my bank, they told me to get in touch with the CRA, who confirmed that they do make calls from 1-800-959-2250 and 1-800-863-8657 for debt collection.

This number has rung me nonstop, like hundreds of times, even though I blocked it ages ago. Weirdly, they still manage to drop voicemails. So I let them through once and picked up, just to tell them to send the police if they think I owe the CRA money. The person on the other end got proper rude but then admitted they couldn’t actually help. They said they’d send some kind of message but never did, and then kept ringing again! Seriously, someone needs to put an end to this madness.

Got a call in French, which I don’t understand, so I told them that and they switched to English. They were quite pushy, insisting on speaking to whoever owns the phone. I asked who they were after, and they named themselves and claimed to be from the CRA, saying I owed them money. I found that odd because CRA never rings up like that asking who a number belongs to. Plus, I told them they’d dialled the wrong person and that I definitely don’t owe the CRA anything.

Turns out I was mistaken. The call came from the CRA’s collections team and was genuine. I thought I’d cleared my balance, so I didn’t expect a call like that. A month ago, I rang the CRA and someone gave me an incorrect balance amount (which they now say wasn’t right). I paid what I thought was owed, but it wasn’t quite right, explaining why they rang again. So yeah, this number is definitely not a scam.

Today I had a ring from 18009592250, a woman on the line who greeted me in two languages. Her French was so awful, it was clear she wasn’t Canadian. She knew my name and asked for me specifically. I told her no and said I doubted she was truly calling on behalf of the CRA. She kept going on, but I ended the call and used this site to check if I was right. Sure enough, I was. Cheers for that.

It was some 1800 or 1888 number, I think, mostly those customer service type calls. Usually not worth my time so I just ignore them. If it’s legit, like from one of my banks or the CRA, they’d leave a voicemail saying to ring back if it’s urgent. I only call back if I’ve been expecting to hear from them.
7 years
Basically, if you have tax debt and choose not to settle it, the CRA doesn’t need to ask you before they take the money. So whether you wanna check if the phone number calling is real or just ignore the calls, eventually your funds can just vanish from your bank.

If you’re trying to reach the CRA about T1 income tax stuff, this number is actually theirs. They also have another line, 1 888 863 8657, which goes straight to the same place. You can find both numbers on the official CRA site.

I got a call from some scammer who asked for my SIN, so I just gave him a fake one. He tried to track me down but ended up with nothing. Told him the CRA doesn’t actually phone people, but he insisted they do. What a muppet! There’s no way he’s getting any of my details!

I got a call the other day and it sounded pretty convincing at first, but I wasn’t about to keep chatting with them. I just told them straight up that I’m aware of all the CRA scams going around and that there’s no chance I’m giving out my details over the phone. I said I’d ring back instead, just to be safe.

Yesterday I got a ring from them and right off the bat they wanted to quiz me on some security stuff before even saying the call was being recorded for “quality checks” or something. That set off alarm bells straight away! I just told them I was tied up and would call back. Spoiler: I never did. What a bunch of numpties!

A young woman, seemed Canadian, called me and was really polite, wanting my date of birth. I told her no and asked for a number to ring back. When I looked up the number later, it came up as a scam. She wanted me to confirm my details but wouldn’t say why she was calling unless I proved who I was first. Obviously, I didn’t bother calling her back. If the CRA needs to reach me, they can just send a letter.

For the last couple of weeks, this number keeps ringing me. Today, i finally answered. Earlier tho, I rang up the CRA to ask if they’d been trying to reach me and why. Both the reps for personal and business accounts said nothing was wrong and no reason they’d call. So when the call came again today, i told the lady i wouldn’t share any details unless she proved she was actually from CRA. She said she was calling from CRA collections and told me to check the CRA website for the number 18009592250 and call back if it was legit. I checked, and that number isn’t on their site at all. Definitely a scam.

This number seems genuine, but the people on the other end are quite dodgy. I reckon it's some private firm working on a contract. They asked me for details about my branch and gave me wrong info about my account. Somehow, they mistakenly stopped my repayment plan. After that, when I tried to set it up again, I was stuck and couldn’t get it done. No clue what those agents might be doing or if they’re mishandling personal data from clients. Also, none of them bothered to tell me who they were.

Hi there. I’m with the CRA and can verify that this number is indeed from the CRA Debt Management department. If you feel iffy about the call, just say you’ll ring back later. You can reach them at 1-888-863-8657 - this number is listed on the official Canada.ca site, so it’s legit :) Also, sometimes people owe instalments for the year that might not be obvious. Hope that clears things up!

Just so you know, if someone phones you asking for your SIN, it definitely isn’t the CRA. They might ask for your date of birth or address, but usually no more than a couple of questions if they're the ones calling you. Be careful with that stuff.

Got a call from someone claiming to be GOC GRC with the number 1800-931-1026. It was a bloke asking for my husband, but the line was really scratchy and kept cutting out. When I asked what it was about, he didn’t want to say - just kept telling me he wanted to talk to my husband directly. I told him I can’t pass on any message if I don’t know what it’s regarding, and he said he’d call back but wouldn’t give any details. Then they said they wouldn’t speak to me and insisted my husband ring them on 1800 959 2250. So I offered to give him my husband's number so he could talk to him, but as soon as I said that, he went quiet and hung up. The CRA have both our numbers, so if it’s important, they can get in touch that way.

I got a call from someone claiming to be Mrs Baptiste from CRA collections, left a voicemail telling a family member to call back. When we rang, a polite lady asked for our SIN to verify who we were, but she wouldn’t share her name or agent ID. We said no, and then she told us to check cra.gc.ca to confirm the number was legit. Honestly, the CRA should have a warning about these scams on their website so people know what to watch out for. These scammers are getting cleverer and seem to have plenty of resources to rip people off. Shame they don’t put that much effort into finding honest jobs instead.
