I received a rather concerning call from the number 1-800-680-8585 earlier today at approximately 15:42, followed by a rather alarming voicemail:
"Hello, you’ve reached the CIBC debit card fraud prevention team. We need to discuss some unusual transactions on your card. It appears there was a transaction of $120.40 at Codashop that did not go through. As a precaution, we’ve temporarily suspended your card until we can confirm this activity. Kindly return our call at 1-800-680-8586."
Now, here are a couple of issues I noticed:
1. Upon checking the official CIBC website, their legitimate toll-free number is 1-800-465-2422 (1-800-465-CIBC), which doesn't match the one provided in the voicemail.
2. Additionally, I don’t even have an account with CIBC!
