I received a call from a woman with a Chinese accent who specifically mentioned my name. She was inquiring about CPP and needed details like my mother’s maiden name in order to move forward. When I pressed her for more information, she was quite evasive and wouldn’t disclose the purpose of the call. She did, however, provide a number - 18002779914 - and suggested I could also visit a Service Canada office during their open hours if I wasn't at ease with handling this over the phone. Quite the curious situation, wouldn’t you say?

Greetings, I've been getting calls from the number 778 233 4527, claiming to be from Service Canada. They insisted they needed to speak with my husband about his Canada Pension Plan. When I expressed my reservations, the caller mentioned that numerous scams were circulating, implying that my hesitation was understandable. Eventually, I requested they put their concerns in writing so I could address the matter appropriately. They then directed me to a toll-free number, 1 800 277 9914, before abruptly ending the conversation.

It's quite baffling how they managed to obtain information from government sources while I was in the process of applying for my CPP and old age pension. It makes one wonder if there's some clever hacking involved or perhaps an insider is feeding them this data. Seriously, come on, RCMP-you're our last line of defence! I'm utterly fed up with these scams that keep popping up every single week, and I'm not alone in this frustration; my mates are feeling it too.

I recently received a rather alarming robocall purportedly from Service Ontario, claiming there were issues regarding fraud linked to my "social security number." What really sent a shiver down my spine was how it kicked off, stating they were "processing your social security number renewal" or words to that effect. Coincidentally, I've just had to reactivate my national insurance number after spending a decade abroad, completely out of the job market. However, it strikes me as odd that Service Ontario would be rambling on about a federal issue like my SIN! Clearly, it's a dodgy scheme, masquerading as a legitimate call. Proper government bodies correspond through the post, invite you to visit your local office, or direct you to log into a secure GCKey portal. They certainly do not rely on robocalls. Be vigilant and steer clear of scams!

I've been receiving repeated calls from someone claiming that my national insurance has been revoked. Naturally, I refused to provide him with any of my details. They ring me daily from 18002779914, and I suspect it's a scam. The fact that they knew my name was quite alarming, and I believe these con artists ought to be apprehended.

I've been receiving calls from this number intermittently for ages now. Each time, they leave a rather robotic automated message claiming there are some fraudulent allegations against me, urging me to press one for further details. Out of sheer curiosity, I decided to ring the number back, and believe it or not, it was actually linked to the Canadian Pension Plan! I’m baffled as to how they’re hijacking this number, but after seeing numerous complaints from others about similar messages, I'm convinced it’s a scam. Someone really needs to put a stop to these individuals!

I've received numerous calls today, each one accompanied by a message concerning a supposed issue with my national insurance number. The so-called “officer” on the line suggested I look up the phone number, which, upon doing so, revealed a slew of information regarding scams. I'm rather puzzled about their motives. To top it off, he ominously mentioned that someone would be coming to my home to harm me. Quite concerning, isn't it?

Having received four missed calls from this number today, I made the effort to call back. As soon as I was connected, the line prompted me to press "1" to chat with an officer. Having done so, I was met with a rather peculiar request to verify my first and last name. I replied that, given he had reached me, he should be able to identify who he was trying to converse with. His response was rather shocking-he insinuated I must be a criminal, suggesting only a criminal would refuse to provide their details. At that moment, I decided to terminate the call and have since ignored the subsequent five or more attempts. Seriously, don’t bother engaging with this lot!

I was rudely awakened this morning to discover seven missed calls and three voicemails from this number. The voice on the messages sounded rather mechanical, almost as if it were a bot. Quite frustrating, I must say! What's even more annoying is how it frequently bypasses ringing altogether and heads straight to voicemail. It’s really unsettling and quite concerning, to be honest.

Despite having put a block on this number, it continues to find a way to get through to me. My phone remains silent when they call, but I keep getting voicemails that echo the alarming threats mentioned in previous comments about my National Insurance number. In total, I've had six calls and five voicemails from this same number between half seven this morning and half three this afternoon, which is quite frustrating given that I've already blocked it.

Just like many others on this site, I’ve had a similar experience. They rang me up, purporting to be from the legal department of Service Canada, spinning a tale about me possibly facing federal court over some supposed discrepancy with my SIN. Then, in a rather theatrical fashion, they urged me to press 1 to chat with a sheriff. I've had three calls from this same number today alone! I have absolutely no intention of pressing 1, as I simply can’t be bothered to waste my time on these con artists right now.

It's absolutely appalling to see individuals resorting to intimidation tactics, particularly against vulnerable elderly folks who might be more susceptible to such threats. I've been receiving persistent calls where they're hurling threats about alleged tax fraud, claiming I'm facing jail time. I explained that I use an accountant for my tax affairs and I mentioned I would be reporting them to the relevant authorities. Their response? A decidedly rude 'F off' before they abruptly ended the call. Quite the charming encounter, wasn’t it?

I received a similar call at six in the evening, which is well past business hours. I pressed '1,' but naturally, it didn’t do anything useful...

I’m curious whether “reporting” this number will actually prompt any intervention from the authorities to put an end to it all.

I've had the same dodgy message about my National Insurance Number, urging me to press “1” to avoid facing arrest for some criminal charges.

In fact, I received that call not once, but twice in a single day, which is rather unusual for these sorts of scams. Typically, you’d expect just one call a day.

I’m a bit stumped on how to make this nonsense stop, aside from perhaps answering and telling them to shove off.

Spread the word to your friends and family!

I received a call from this number earlier today. It was a recorded message claiming to be from Service Canada regarding an issue with my National Insurance number, urging me to get in touch to avoid any potential legal problems. Naturally, out of sheer curiosity, I hit 1 to connect with a live person, believing it was likely a scam. A woman answered, introducing herself as “Service Canada, how may I assist you?” I mentioned that I had just received a call from this number, and she asked, “Do you know what it said?” I couldn’t believe it and replied, “Are you joking?” At that moment, she abruptly hung up on me. Isn’t it dreadful that they resort to such tactics? It's alarming to think that this could be a legitimate Service Canada number! I can only imagine how many innocent individuals have fallen victim to this scheme. Something has to be done to put a stop to it!

I've just received a call from this number as well. Out of sheer curiosity, I pressed the 1 key. A chap by the name of William Wyld picked up, but to be honest, his English was rather poor. I inquired about the purpose of the call, and he claimed there was some sort of fraud concerning my National Insurance number. When I asked him who he was trying to reach and which NI number he was referring to, he became increasingly flustered. I peppered him with questions, and his response was less than civil-he called me a 'silly woman' and promptly disconnected the call. Quite the experience!

I can confirm that this phone number genuinely belongs to Service Canada regarding CPP/OAS. That said, beware! There are individuals out there who can manipulate your caller ID to make it appear as though this number is ringing you, only to deliver a fraudulent call laden with menacing threats. My 92-year-old mum just got a rather dodgy call from this number. They claimed they were missing her up-to-date address and insisted they couldn't proceed with any further CPP or OAS payments until they had it. Strangely enough, they said they were 'too busy' to take the details during the call and instructed her to ring back before 8:30 the next morning, threatening that all her payments would be cut off otherwise.
