Pretty much the same story... they told me I owed a huge debt. I asked them who it was they were calling from, and they replied "The Treasury." I was like, "You mean the IRS?" then they just asked if I had a lawyer. The guy had a really thick accent and sounded super unprofessional...

Today I got a call from the number 786-738-6928 saying I had overdue taxes and could be arrested soon. The caller said his name was Steve O'Conner, which seemed odd because he spoke with an Indian accent. That was my first hint something was off. Then he started pressuring me to buy some kind of prepaid card from a supermarket to settle the debt. It felt really threatening. The caller somehow knew my full name, date of birth, and even the tax account I had back in 2012. So I rang up the IRS directly and they confirmed it was a total scam. I hope no one else is tricked by this and ends up losing money they can't afford to.

Today, I received that call too and felt a bit anxious at first. But after going through what everyone has said here, I’m relieved now and pretty sure it’s a scam. Big thanks to all who shared their experiences!

Someone rang an old phone number of mine pretending to be about some legal problem. The bloke said his name was James Patterson and told me to enjoy my day. It felt dodgy so I googled the number and sure enough, it’s a scam. Definitely best not to ring back or share any details about yourself!

I got a call at my house and they left a voicemail saying they were from the US Treasury’s Legal Department. So I rang back to check if it was legit, and when I asked for proof, the guy on the other end, speaking with a thick accent, just told me to f*** off. Pretty sure he wasn't actually working for the government.

Strange thing just happened, some bloke with an Indian accent called me today but said his name was James this time. Like you all said, he claimed to be from the US Treasury Department and started asking about my lawyer. I told him I've been out of work for more than 12 years. After that, he just hung up on me.

Got a call at home from them, said something about suing me.

I got a voicemail from him and had a feeling it was nothing serious, but I rang back anyway just for laughs. Honestly, he sounded like a right daft bloke with a really thick accent.

Got a voicemail earlier from some bloke claiming to be James Patterson from the Dept of Legal Affairs. He warned me to ring back or I’d end up in some "legal trouble." It sounded way off, especially when he started saying stuff like "God bless" and "have a blessed day" - not something you’d expect from the government. And that dodgy attempt at a southern drawl? Yeah, totally fake.

This just happened to me as well. Got a message from some bloke named Jim Hatters, said he was with the Legal Department and wanted my daughter to call him back. There was definitely an accent, sounded dodgy. What caught me off guard was him asking for her lawyer to get in touch with him - otherwise I probably wouldn’t have wasted a minute trying to find out who he was. Bit of a muppet, if you ask me.

I got a call from a man with an Indian accent claiming to be Officer Robert Davis from the US Treasury Department, saying there were legal actions against me and asked if I had a lawyer. I threw a few questions back at him, and he wanted me to ring him back at the Treasury’s Legal Affairs, some Steve O'Connor. After grilling him for a bit, I told him to send me the certified letter again, which he said wasn’t delivered because I wasn’t home. He lost his cool then and insulted me, saying I was too stupid to get it. Honestly, the whole thing was so badly done it was almost laughable!

I got a call from them as well, and they started threatening me with legal trouble. Does anyone know how I can press criminal charges against them?

I got a call from someone speaking really bad English, saying my wife was in trouble with the Department of Treasury. I rang the number back and spoke to the same bloke who left the message. He asked for my wife but when I said she wasn’t around, he refused to explain what it was regarding and just ended the call. I tried calling three more times and each time he picked up saying he was from Domino’s Pizza, claiming he had no idea what I meant and definitely wasn’t with the Department. Definitely a scam. The caller said his name was Robert Davis but his accent sounded more Middle Eastern to me.
