Got a call from this number and they actually used my name, claiming to be from National Grid. I just ended the call straight away.

Got a call from someone named 'Leanne', talking about shares. Got quite pushy when I asked questions. Best to steer clear.

I got a call from someone saying they're linked to BT shares that I own. They mentioned some sort of takeover offer. When they asked for my email, I said no and told them to mail me the details instead. After that, they just hung up.

Got a call from 001719628021 saying I owned shares in British Gas. I figured it was some sort of scam, told them straight up, and then hung up. I use skytalk shield, so wasn’t one of those robo calls.

Got a call from someone claiming they’re working on behalf of a client planning a hostile takeover of BT. They said they’d be offering no less than £8.00 a share. Not quite sure what their angle is, but it all felt a bit dodgy - definitely seemed like some kind of scam to me.

Got two calls from them tonight, both times claiming it was to do with shares. I told them straight up not to ring me again - it's clearly a scam. We're based in the UK.

Got a call from this number: 0017196268021, showing up as ‘INTERNATIONAL’ on the caller ID through our call blocker. I quickly blocked it by pressing the hash key. The phone didn’t actually ring, so presumably the answerphone took over. Since no message was left, we instantly thought it was dodgy. We hardly get calls from overseas contacts anyway, so it seemed like a scam. Honestly, I wouldn’t have picked up even just based on the caller ID. I prefer to wait and see if they leave a message first. Any unknown caller who doesn’t leave a voicemail is automatically treated with suspicion here. We’ve saved all our known numbers in the phone so they can be identified from the Caller ID. Still, we know these can be faked, which is a bit worrying. I reckon Alexander Graham Bell would be turning in his grave if he saw how phones are misused these days! Stay vigilant, people.

I got a call from 0017196268021 claiming they were with a mergers and acquisitions firm. Like some others have said, they were talking about a hostile takeover. They mentioned private investors because apparently institutional investors only held 43% of shares, and they needed 51% to complete the takeover, so they were trying to get another 8%. For me, it supposedly involved a national infrastructure company. The next day I got an email with an NDA to fill out, asking for details like the stock name, total shares, the registered shareholder’s full name, plus my name, address, mobile, phone and fax numbers, email, the best time to contact me, and also my signature and date.

Smells like a scam if you ask me.

I got a call about shares in southern power. I told the person to send me details in writing, and if they kept ringing, I'd report it to the cops. Then they just hung up. Sounds like a total scam to me.

I got a phone call from this number and the person said they were with Scottish Power. They started asking for my wife's name, but she doesn’t have any shares with them or anything. I told the guy, who had an unusual accent, to send us something in writing if it was true and then hung up. I’ve also blocked the number using BT call protect now.

This number just rang me up claiming it was about my shares in Mitchell and Butler. They said if over half the people agreed, they could get more cash for us. They emailed me some info and wanted me to sign an NDA and send it back within a couple of hours. I looked the number up and realised it’s a total scam, so I didn’t bother opening the email.

Got a call from a lady with what sounded like an Asian accent asking for my wife, ***** *******. She said it was about some 228 shares in Scottish Power she believed my wife owned. When I confirmed I was her husband, I told her we don’t actually own any shares in SP anymore - we used to, but those were bought out by Iberdrola ages ago, and that’s who we hold shares in now. The woman claimed she was representing a firm interested in buying Scottish Power, but I follow the business news closely and hadn’t heard anything about that. I asked if this was a scam, and she assured me it wasn’t - apparently, their company’s been around for over 50 years (yeah, right). I ended the call there. They rang back later but I just ignored it.

Got a call about Scottish Power shares, apparently sold to some Spanish company, saying my husband owned 225 shares and they wanted to buy them off us to get 51% control. They offered £15 a share. I told them I’d have to check with my accountant and financial advisor before deciding. Felt a bit iffy about it, so I ended the call. Later on, I looked up the number and turns out it’s a scam, so watch out for this one!

The caller wouldn't stop asking if I was ***** ******* and never said who they were. Then they claimed it was something about my shares. When I wasn’t interested, they just suddenly ended the call. Sounds like a risky scam to me!

Just like a few others mentioned, I got a call saying I hold shares in HBOS and that Lloyds Bank was planning a takeover, something about a hostile bid. They claimed they needed just 8% more shares to secure a 51% controlling interest. The caller wanted to send me paperwork to sign, including a non-disclosure agreement. He actually knew my name, address, and how many shares I supposedly owned (he insisted I still had them). Very polite chap with an Asian accent, very calm and not rushing me at all. When I asked for the documents by post, he insisted on email or fax so it could be done quick. I told him no way, that won’t happen. So, we ended the call there. Watch out for this one!

This number rang me up claiming they were snapping up shares at twice the market value for a hostile takeover of a power company I had invested in. It honestly felt way too good to be legit.
