Got a call from someone with a Spanish accent claiming to be doing a survey about financial services usage. They said they weren’t selling anything and wouldn’t ask for personal details. I told them they obviously had personal info since they dialled an unlisted home number and asked for a relative by name. I told them to try someone else and hung up. I’m a bit unsure, but when I checked the number, it showed up as Harmon Research. From what I gathered, Harmon Research seems connected to Ancestry.com, which makes sense since I did a DNA test with them. They didn’t leave any voicemail or message though. The call not going anywhere when I tried to ring back might be because of the kind of phone system they use, maybe some kind of voip or centrex line thing. I’m not going to bother calling them myself because of some dodgy reviews I read. That said, if they get through again, I’ll definitely ask what they want and share what I find out here. Any info on these scammy calls helps. Also, a heads up if you’re selling stuff on Craigslist or anywhere like that - don’t accept bank or personal cheques and then post the goods. I’ve heard plenty of stories about fake cheque scams. And, seriously, never ever give out your Social Security number or any personal info over the phone. Always be cautious!

A couple of days back, this number gave me a ring. Someone in my family picked up as I wasnt near the phone at the time. I told them just to ask the caller to leave a message. Tried dialing back myself later but all I got was their voicemail straight away.

This number called me earlier, asking for someone with the same surname as mine. I told them they probably dialled the wrong person because it seemed a bit dodgy. The caller spoke with a Mexican accent.
