6 yearsI had a rather unsettling experience recently with a chap purporting to be a police officer who was attempting to swindle me out of £500. He alleged that I had an outstanding payday loan from years back, which I apparently neglected to settle. This bloke claimed that forking out the £500 would demonstrate to the court my willingness to clear the remaining balance. When I mentioned that I simply couldn’t afford to send him any money, he threatened that an actual officer would arrive posthaste to cart me off to jail for six months! Curiously enough, upon searching the phone number he rang me from, it directed me to the very building where the local Sheriff’s department is located in my old hometown.
