Fraud Alert: Beware of this Scam There is a concerning scam that my wife recently encountered when applying for a credit card. The scammers asked for a call back regarding her new card number, which we did not possess at the time. Alarmingly, they claimed it was in connection with fraudulent activity and insisted we respond promptly. Skeptical about the authenticity of the situation, we decided to contact the credit card company directly to inquire. However, to our surprise, they informed us that the phone number provided did not belong to them. Curiosity got the better of us, and we decided to dial the suspicious number: 647 775 1700, only to encounter a busy signal each time. In addition to that, the other call back number they provided promptly requested personal information without verifying the caller's credit card number first. Please exercise caution when dealing with such scams. It is always better to err on the side of caution.

I received a call regarding my recent application for an Amex credit card, which I had submitted just a day ago. At first, I trusted them as they knew my name and the specific type of Amex card I had applied for. The call was then transferred to another lady, who requested that I verify my personal information in order to approve my application. At this point, I started to feel suspicious and asked her to provide her own verification details. However, she simply provided me with her supposed "Amex work ID and name," which I suspected were fake. Despite my doubts, I ended up sharing my actual date of birth and current address with her. Soon after, she started asking for my bank details, confirming my suspicion that this was indeed a scam. I promptly hung up the call. At present, I'm unsure about the next steps to take, as the scammers now have access to my name, date of birth, and address. Feeling quite concerned for my safety at the moment.

Today, I received a call from a number, and they claimed to be from American Express. They knew my name and asked if I had applied for an American Express Card, which I hadn't. They informed me that an application had been made using my name, but they wouldn't approve it. When I expressed my gratitude, the woman advised me to check my credit score and look for the inquiry from American Express. If I found it, she told me to inform the credit bureau about the fraudulent application. However, she didn't ask for any additional information about myself besides confirming my name. To be safe, I checked my credit score, but there was no record of an inquiry by American Express or any other party. I will monitor my credit report in four days when it is updated to see if any inquiry appears then.
