Today I got a call from a number that showed as "unavailable." The caller said her name was "Sarah" and had a typical Indian accent, trying to convince me she needed access to my computer. She gave me some licence number, asking if it matched my machine’s details, claiming she’d fix some problem. When I asked if she was trying to get into my computer, she started rambling about a non-virus issue she could resolve. I pretended to go along since they’ve called me loads of times before and I knew it was a scam. I asked her for a contact number in case we got cut off - 516-210-0398. Then I grilled her about their location and she said Sunrise, Florida. I had all their info, even their office address and the company president's name, just northwest of Ft. Lauderdale. After Sarah got annoyed with me, another guy called Steve came on and I ran the same routine with him. Eventually, I just hung up. Ain’t scam calls a right pain?!

This scam’s definitely not gone away. On 20th September 2017, I got a phone call from someone claiming to be Simon Rodner from the Cyber Crime Department. He spoke with a strong Indian accent and told me not to open any emails as they’d apparently spotted Trojan viruses on my computer. I kept asking questions, which seemed to annoy him since I wasn’t just doing what he said. It was clear he was trying to get into my computer. When I asked why he was ringing our company line, he sounded caught off guard and ended the call abruptly without saying another word.

Just finished a call with a bloke boasting a thick Indian accent, claiming to be from Microsoft support and going by the name Frank Alex - which honestly sounds nothing like an Indian name! Right from the get-go, I could tell he was trying to scam me. So I played along, pretending my computer was acting up and that I needed his assistance. When I asked about costs, he first threw out $200, then bumped it up to $500 for “lifetime support.” I went along with it, saying “Brilliant, sounds worth it! Should I pay by card or e-check?” He was all about the e-check option. I told him, “Alright, I’ll ring back later, gotta dash now.” Kept him chatting for half an hour. Bet he was thinking he’d got himself an easy victim! These types really grind my gears. Wish there was a way to nab these con artists for good.

I got a call from this same number too, it showed up as Restricted on my phone. Luckily, I wasn’t at my desk, so I ignored it at first. Then the next day, a guy with an Indian accent called again and said his name was Simon. I felt really uneasy by then, so I asked him for a number to call back on, saying I’d ring him later. While waiting, I did some digging on 5162100398 and found quite a few warnings online - big thanks to everyone sharing that info! When Simon rang back, I straight up told him I knew it was a scam and warned him to stop or I’d report him to the authorities. He just hung up on me - no goodbye or anything. Glad to be rid of him!

On the 3rd of March 2017, I got a ring from someone called Charles Wilkins who had an accent that definitely wasn't American. He said some CSRSSEEXE thing had knocked my computer out. Claimed to be from Windows support and kept telling me to let him log into my PC. He also told me not to open any emails or even use the computer till I called him back. Sounded dodgy to me.

I got a phone call from someone who said they were a senior Microsoft advisor, but they came up as "Anonymous." They claimed my PC was full of errors and needed fixing. I wasn't comfortable letting them access my computer, so I asked for a contact number. They gave me 516-210-0398 ext. 913 and said their name was Rick William from Connecticut. However, from the way he spoke, it seemed more like he had an Indian or Pakistani accent. I didn’t call back and blocked the number straight away. Also, he wanted me to type www.supremocontrol.com into the Windows run command, which made me hang up instantly. Seriously, watch out for anyone asking to control your computer remotely.

WATCH OUT!! DON'T FALL FOR THIS FRAUD!! I got a random phone call from a woman with an Indian accent who said her name was Sarah and that she was calling from CT. When I asked for a number to ring her back, she gave me 516-210-039. She claimed to be working for a company named PC Solutions and said they were official online support for Windows. She told me my computer was sending viruses through the network and that it needed urgent fixing. I was immediately suspicious and refused to let her anywhere near my PC. Then she told me the call was being recorded and if anything bad happened to my computer, the recording would prove I’d refused help, so I couldn't blame Microsoft for any issues. Throughout the call, I could hear other people talking in the background, making it sound like she was in a call centre. Seems like a well thought-out scam. But what’s their endgame? Stealing credit card info or identity theft maybe?

Got a call today from 516-210-0398, a bloke with a strong Indian accent who said his name was Sean. He claimed he was ringing from Microsoft and something called PC Solutions, wanting us to switch on our computer so he could access it because apparently there was an issue. Then he mentioned he worked for the "Geek Squad" and needed to sort out our Windows. When we asked which Windows version we had, he just replied, "Whichever you’re using, normally the most common one." Our iPhone showed the call as "Unknown," so we asked him for a callback number. He gave us the number above and said he was calling from Connecticut. We pointed out that no one in Connecticut needed to be calling about our computer, which is perfectly fine. Despite that, he kept urging us to let him in. My husband firmly declined, and the caller said, "Thanks a lot," before hanging up.
