They called my lad, saying they needed my ID info, some Asian lady on the line. I gotta be honest, I got a bit suspicious right away hearing that accent. Then he just ended the call. After that, they tried me direct. Definitely a scam, I reckon. Hopefully folks check this number out and don’t share anything with them. Just a heads up, I never pick up calls from hidden numbers or ones I don’t recognise - straight to the answerphone they go.

Something about this didn’t sit right. They phoned my son asking about me?? He ended the call and rang me straight after. Then they tried ringing me from a private number. I let it go to voicemail and the message said to ring a certain number with my TFN and other ID ready to confirm details about a business account - which I definitely don’t have. No way would I ever call back. The number they gave is definitely a scam.

My lad got a call about me and they were asking for my DOB and other ID stuff. He ended the call straight away and got hold of me. Later, they rang me from a hidden number. I just passed it to my partner instead. I’m always careful not to call back unless I’ve looked up the number properly, and I’ve warned friends to be wary too.

I got a voicemail from 1300466859 saying to call back within two working days, giving some long reference number starting 105 and ending 117. I looked it up on the ATO site and couldn’t find anything matching that number. They told me to have my info ready for tax stuff, but this sounds dodgy to me. I reckon youve probly been contacted more than once and maybe your ATO account has the wrong adress linked. Also, the ref number they gave doesnt really confirm your identity since it wasnt really verified that they were the ones callin. If you owe any lodgements, your Tax Agent might have asked them to reach out to you coz those are your responsability, not theirs.

I got a message asking me to call this number, and they gave me a long reference code to mention. When I called, someone answered saying they were from the "Australian Taxation Office" but then started asking for my full name, date of birth, file number and more. I thought the reference number they gave would be enough. I only wanted to give my name and the reference code, but they said they couldn't continue without my other details so I ended the call. It all felt quite suspicious to me. Also strange that they called me directly, not my tax agent who handles my returns. If it truly was the ATO, I’d expect them to send me a letter instead of a call like that. Seems like a scam to me.

Yeah, so this number rang me up yesterday morning while I was driving. I picked up and asked if they could just text me the info instead, but they said they couldn’t do that. Instead, they left a voice message telling me to call them back on the same number. Quite weird, really.

this is def not a scam, ive checked the number 1300 466 859 and it actually appears on the ATO's official website. its all about early help with debts. they reach out to folks sooner rather than later so they dont get swamped with bigger payments. basically, if you chat with them early on, they try to sort things out before it gets worse.
