I got a call asking me to contact this number, saying my wife supposedly owes money. They kept pushing for my personal details, but when I checked with the ATO, they confirmed she doesn’t owe anything. Feels like a total scam to me.

Last night my 18 year old daughter got a message telling her to ring a certain number and give a reference code. I told her not to bother with it. When I checked the number today, I saw others had reported the same thing. Best to just block it out.

Got a strange text out of the blue and had a dig around online. Turns out the number is linked to AGL, which makes me think it might be something to do with ACTEW AGL or maybe AGL Energy. If you use them for gas or electric and you’ve missed a bill or got an old one unpaid, it wouldn't surprise me if a big company like ACTEW AGL hired a major debt collector like Baycorp Advantage. Of course, they’d have access to your personal details too. But honestly, I’ve never gotten anything like this directly from ACTEW AGL Energy Australia or Origin, so this felt off. I took the time to check it out properly before trying to reply and I'm glad I did - it definitely smells like a scam. Both are well-known firms, so people probably trust calls from them and end up getting caught out, which is a real shame. Xoxo

So I got this text from a number saying they were Baycorp and gave me a reference number, asking me to call 1300361478. When I rang, I gave them the reference, and they asked for my name - which they already had from the text - as well as my address and date of birth. I wasn’t comfortable giving my address or DOB until I found out what this was all about, so I just gave them my name. They kept pushing for more info but I stood my ground and said no. Then they put me on hold and the call just dropped. I don’t owe anything, no idea what this is regarding, and I’m not sharing personal details until that’s clear.

I got a text off 0419788700 saying it was from Baycorp about some Telstra bill and asking me to ring 1300361478. I don’t even use Telstra, so I searched for Baycorp’s actual contact details and found that number isn’t theirs at all. Seems fishy to me.

Got a text from this number. I rang back and mentioned the reference number they gave. Explained it was a work mobile. They asked if I was familiar with someone particular, and when I said no, they promised to take my number off their list.

I kept getting messages from +61419788700 saying some important issue was linked to Baycorp and telling me to ring 1300 361 478 with a reference number they gave. The problem is, I’m neither an Aussie citizen nor a permanent resident, so I had no clue what Baycorp was about. After having a quick search, I discovered it’s apparently a debt collection agency. But I’ve never owed any money here or had any credit cards, so I looked deeper and saw loads of folks saying it’s a scam. I was glad I didn’t call because I heard they ask for all your personal details. Best to just ignore and report these messages to avoid any trouble.

Honestly, you'd have to be mad to hand over any info to these lot. They kept dodging my questions, wouldn’t say what it was all about until they got the details they wanted. Not falling for their tricks.

Got calls from some dodgy lot claiming I owe money to AGL, which I don’t even deal with. Feels like a total scam to me.

Got a letter in the post saying it was urgent and had a reference number, so I rang the number provided. An Indian lady answered and seemed to know my first and last name after I gave her the reference. She then asked for more details like my licence number and date of birth, which I stupidly gave.
She told me I owed Telstra money, which I definitely don’t, and said I needed to cooperate. I told them straight I didn’t owe anything and to stop calling me.
But even after that, the calls and letters keep coming, so I’m just ignoring them now.

Just received the exact same message earlier today.

Today I got a message like that and decided to call back. A woman answered saying she worked for Baycorp, asked me for my reference number and who she was talking to. I gave my reference but refused to share any personal details. At first she mentioned she couldn’t tell me what the call was about. I stood firm, saying I wouldn’t hand over info to someone who sent me an unexpected text. Then she asked if I knew someone named xxxxxxxx, a name I’d never come across. That’s when I remembered that when I first got my phone a while ago, I used to get calls from people chasing debts. I explained that to her and she said it was fine, that she’d remove me from their list. She was really polite and didn’t push at all - after that, the call ended.

Just got the same text today and it seems really dodgy, probably a phishing attempt. It says to get in touch with Baycorp about some urgent issue they’re dealing with and to ring 1300 361 478. They also want you to mention ref200098021532 when you call. The message came from 0428032247, which I’ve already blocked. Definitely be careful if you get this!
