I’m with EE and just saw a weird £20 charge for calling 10020250100 on my bill, but I’ve never rang that number or texted it. I'm pretty sure this number is dodgy. It appeared on my bill as an MMS contact, but I never send MMS messages. Not sure if I got calls from it or if I called it back, since the number didn’t actually show on my phone. Just noticed a £0.50 charge for sending an MMS to a number in Canada/USA on 19th March around 9:45 pm. Problem is, I don’t recall sending any picture messages abroad at all. No clue how this charge even came about, so I’m planning to get in touch with Virgin Mobile straight away. When I checked my phone logs, it showed a couple of incoming calls from “No Caller ID” numbers, plus two calls from a UK mobile starting 07785, which I don’t know. There was also a 42-second outgoing call to that unknown number, but I really can’t remember making it. Nothing was logged at exactly 21:45 though, which makes it all more confusing. My real fear is that if they’re able to pull off a £0.50 charge like this, what’s to stop them hitting me with a tenner, fifty quid or more next time? Honestly, this scam needs to be shut down ASAP.

I've had a bill for £7.20 because of 18 MMS calls from the number 10020250100. Cheers to those who have tried to explain what's happening, but I still don’t really get it (maybe I'm just too old for this tech stuff). With the virus going around, BT aren’t taking calls right now and there’s no help at all on their official support pages or on the BT Community forums. All I want is to know how to block this number on my phone. Is it really that hard to put that info up somewhere?!

Just to add to my earlier message about getting hit with about 18 charged calls from this number, 10020250100. I rang BT, and they were really helpful trying to sort it out. The bloke on support said he hadn’t come across this issue on an Android before, only on iPhones. He reckoned it was something to do with the phone settings, not BT, who provide my mobile. We had a look but couldn’t find any setting that was sending texts as pictures to email addresses or anything. Still, he was kind enough to waive the £7.20 bill as a goodwill thing :-)

I keep receiving dodgy emails from a person who claims to be called Mary, urging me to check out some sketchy website for a supposed meet-up. It’s clearly a scam designed to fish for your account details; only a fool would fall for such nonsense! Out of sheer frustration, I ended up tracking down the corresponding phone number and gave it a ring, which in hindsight was a foolish move. Noticed this number showed up 4 times as extra fees on my missus’ phone bill, all marked as MMS rather than SMS. Managed to get BT to give me a £2 refund though. When you use an iPhone and try to send an iMessage without being connected to Wi-Fi, it often won't go through. If the message doesn’t send, and you press and hold the message bubble, sometimes it gives you the option to resend it as an email instead. Also, the timestamp might show up as GMT. Maybe check if the times you sent iMessages match when these got changed over to emails. That might line up with any charges you've noticed.

Each time it says £0.50 for messages to number 0010020250100, but I’ve never actually sent any pics, nor do I know anyone over there. This feels dodgy to me. Virgin really ought to investigate this because it’s making me consider switching over to Vodafone.

I got in touch with BT and turns out it’s a scam. They were really helpful, blocked the number on my phone and said they’ll give me back the £1.40.

I just got a BT bill and saw they charged me £2.40 for 6 MMS messages sent from my new iPhone, spread over a few days. I’m 82 years old, and honestly, I have no idea what an MMS message even is.

Had exactly the same issue. Ended up being charged 50p for sending a pic message to this number on 24th Feb. Rang Virgin, spent ages going through my bills and talking with them, but eventually they gave me the 50p back. I never send picture messages so have told Virgin to block all of them for me. Also ran into trouble with premium rate numbers before, so I’ve got them to block those too now.

I got charged 50p for sending a picture message to the USA/Canada, but on that day I was on holiday in the Canaries and definitely didn't send any picture texts. When I looked up the number it was sent to, 0010020250100, loads of others have had calls or messages going to the same number, so it’s not just me. I raised it with Virgin and they agreed to give me a refund, but they insisted I must have used WhatsApp to send a picture to a mate in the US. That makes no sense because if I had, I'd have used my contact’s actual number, not this odd American one. They warned me to be careful since they'd only refund the charge once! It’s clear there’s some glitch here, but they just won’t admit it.

Got charged for a picture message from this number but I was actually driving when it showed up - weird right? EE ended up giving me my money back though. They said it was some kind of automatic app store fee, which made no sense to me since it said picture message. Proper strange. Anyway, I've blocked the number now.

I’m on EE and noticed a 40p fee on my bill dated 27th June 2018 for an international picture message. After going through my texts from around that time, I realised I accidentally sent a message to an email address, which apparently costs 40p. The whole thing was made more confusing by the picture message label and a strange phone number showing up. Turns out it’s simply because I messaged an email address!

Back in April 2018, my BT mobile account showed a 40p charge from a call to that number. At first, I thought maybe I’d accidentally sent an emoji or something. Then it happened again in May, and by June I’d been billed 80p for two calls. I ended up chatting online with BT, who eventually pointed me to a forum on their site discussing this number. They did agree to refund the 80p from June. I use a Samsung phone, but the forum only mentioned ways to block it on iPhones. Anyone got any tips on how to block it on a Samsung?

I’m a BT customer and have faced this issue about 4 times now. After spending ages on calls and doing chat support, they ended up giving me a refund. But, I reckon one of the folks commenting up there might be onto something - it could be that it’s actually sending the text to an email address or summat like that!

So, weird thing happening with my old iPhone 5s - picture messages seem to be sending themselves to numbers in the US and Canada. Virgin has already charged me around £15-20 for it. They’re looking into the whole thing but it’s still going on. Now I’ve gotta wait a whole 24 hours to hear back on what’s actually happening. Quite frustrating!

On Saturday 16th December 2017, Virgin charged me for 4 separate photo messages sent to this number at different times. I told them straight away that I hadn't sent or made any pics that day, and Virgin gave me a refund right away. It does make you think if this number, said to be linked to USA/Canada, is somehow involved in some security glitch, maybe linked to WhatsApp or the like. From what others have said, Virgin know about this bug but haven't fixed it yet.

Today, Monday 4th December 2017, I got in touch with Virgin Mobile about the exact same problem with this number, which apparently is linked to Canada and the US. They told me it might be due to an app on my phone that’s sending out these calls - but I don’t have any app like that. Plus, I was fast asleep when the calls were fired off, not just once but five times within eight minutes. Why didn’t Virgin say they already knew about this number? They asked me to look it up on Google, and I did, but I still have no clue who it belongs to. On top of that, my wife’s phone was charged £3 for exceeding her data limit, but she never actually uses her phone for internet - she’s always on her iPad. Seriously, OFCOM needs to step in; this issue has been going on for about two years now and it’s getting ridiculous.

EE charged me for 7 picture messages over 10 days from a number I don’t recognise. I never sent any pics on those days. I reported it to EE and got a full refund without any hassle. I told their rep I found loads of complaints about this number on this site. Proper dodgy stuff. Cheers to this site for the heads up!

I've noticed a few unexpected charges on my bill recently, but every time I've asked about them, they've sorted it out and given me a refund. This time though, I think I've figured out what's going on. I accidentally messaged an email address instead of a phone number. After checking with Virgin, it turns out they do charge 40p for texts sent to emails. Plus, they add fees if your message goes over 160 characters. - John

When using BT Mobile, I noticed that if you include an emoji in a text, like a smiley, it can turn your SMS into an MMS, which then costs you £0.40. I discovered this after sending a brief message to Germany - the text itself cost me £0.252, but then the smiley added the extra 40p. On my bill, the MMS fee appeared under the number +10020250100. Quite annoying, really!

This showed up twice on my BT statement and they couldn’t really say why. The 40p charge ends up with BT, but since it happens with loads of firms, I'm guessing it’s more a glitch in the system than a scam, because BT (in this case) keeps the money. If it were an inside thing, someone must really have a soft spot for their boss.
