Looks like the number has been switched to 09826523214. These scammers put a familiar name in the text to trick you into thinking a mate sent you something. I didn’t ring back, knowing full well that calling just ends up costing you loads for no good reason. It’s a classic scam. Don’t fall for the name they tack on. They definitely haven’t gotten hold of your contacts.

I just told Action Fraud about this. Luckily, after seeing all the comments here, I didn’t open the email or ring the number. They left me a message to call Jane about my Vmail or something, don’t even know what that is!

I phoned the Office of the Public Guardian today and gave them my number. This is a gov.uk body - surely they wouldn’t be sharing our info with dodgy scammers? Definitely worth looking into.

10/11/20 - Got a message telling me to ring 09826523221 to get some voicemail from Evette. It was one of those usual ones: "To retrieve your voicemail from Evette please call 09826523221 or email [email protected][###] to opt out of marketing," came from 07458148120. Honestly, really annoying! Luckily you can just block these kinds of messages these days. Would say if you get this, just block it straight away.

Just got a text from +4473378911284 saying to get my voicemail from Sophie I should ring 09826523219 or email support@bitlynow{###]. It also said I can opt out of marketing calls but they charge £6 plus standard network rates. The email looked like it was from Primark but actually was a load of dodgy sites - I tried to click the unsubscribe link but it rushed me through to loads of random websites too fast to even stop it.
