I’ve noticed these folks ring up random numbers, only letting the phone ring once before hanging up, all in an effort to create a missed call notification. The whole tactic is a bit of a scam really, as anyone who rings back ends up dialing a premium rate number.

I just received a missed call from this lot and, rather naively, decided to return the call. Fortunately, they hung up almost straight away. How on earth is this sort of thing permitted by telecom providers?

We’re planning to return the call, but honestly, it didn’t seem like a regular mobile number, so I decided to do a bit of digging online. Received a call from this number around 6:40 this morning - I was fast asleep and my phone was on silent. I did, however, catch a faint vibration that I can barely recall. Initially, I was quite sceptical, thinking it might be a premium rate number or perhaps an overseas mobile. As it turns out, it appears to be the former, as I suspected. This number rang us at a rather ungodly hour of 2:24am today. In a moment of folly, we returned the call, albeit briefly. After a little digging online, we discovered some rather dubious details about them. Our phone wasn’t on silent, but thankfully, they didn’t persist with their calls, which meant no one was disturbed in our home. It's utterly unacceptable to be ringing at such an hour and it screams of a scam designed to swindle money.

I was tempted to return the call to figure out the mystery, but I thought it best to do a quick search online first. That's when I stumbled upon this website, which proved to be a lifesaver. The caller claimed that we'd been chosen to win a hefty sum of money, but it all seemed extremely suspect, especially given the poor quality of the recording. We hung up immediately.
