Honestly, anyone badmouthing HMRC here is off the mark. What’s happened is that they found some dodgy premium rate scam numbers through a quick Google search. Real HMRC numbers always start with 0300 or 03000, and their calls are charged at local rates only. So no, HMRC isn’t calling you from some expensive premium line.

so i dialled this 08 number thinkin it would be covered by my phone plan. spent like 25 minutes trying to connect but never got anywhere. just saw on my bill that they charged me for some 'premium' service. no clue what’s premium about it honestly, feels like the government’s just taking the mick. proper scam if you ask me.

Back in January 2018, I rang this number and got hit with a £7.00 fee for just one call! Absolutely ridiculous. Now I’ve discovered it was the HMRC on the other end. They don’t care about customers at all, it feels like pure theft.

Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs just snatching money without even telling you beforehand what you owe. i usually expect tricks like this from dodgy scammers or nasty phone callers, but not from the government of my own country. it honestly makes me so furious.

I'm pretty sure this was HMRCT! Got charged £11.36 for a call lasting 19.36 minutes. It's ridiculous, I rang hoping to get some financial support and ended up paying just to hear that there's nothing I qualify for! Such a rip off.
