It’s good to see these scams being shared on here to alert people, but they really should be reported to the police too. Unfortunately, loads of vulnerable people fall for them and most scam tries go unreported. This site helpfully includes a link to report dodgy calls and messages - check out the info just above the map. Getting all these scam attempts logged is important. It’s the only way HMRC and fraud officers can really get a grip on how big this problem is. Stay careful out there everyone.

The number called me again and claimed I owed taxes, saying if I didn’t pay up I’d be taken to court and face thousands in fines, and that I’d need a lawyer. They wanted between £1000 and £1500 straight away, then said we could arrange a payment plan afterwards. It really stressed me out all weekend. I told them I get paid on Monday so I can sort it then. I decided to look up the number online and so glad I did, otherwise I’d have lost a grand.

I've already reported this number to HMRC and Action Fraud. If you've had a call from them, you can send details about the conversation to [email protected] or ring up Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040. Whenever you're in doubt about calls like this, just say you’ll ring them back on the official HMRC number and then check directly with HMRC about your "case". Most likely, it’s a scam since HMRC usually send letters rather than phone you.

SCAM - THIS ISN'T HMRC - they have said before they never phone you directly. They always send letters in a brown envelope. This scam tries to frighten older and vulnerable people into paying fake tax debts. They offer to slash the amount from thousands down to just a few hundred if you pay immediately over the phone. Got a message on my phone from 08458622698, said they were from HMRC and warned me about some serious consequences if I didn’t ring them straight back. Sounded really dodgy to me.

I've gone through the exact same thing, it really left me feeling awful. Honestly, there needs to be some action taken to put an end to these calls. I've just blocked their number now.

Somebody called me pretending to be from HMRC, but it was obviously a scam. They tried to scare me into giving them money, which was really suspicious. Always double check these calls because HMRC would never ask for payment over the phone like that!

Got a call from 08458622698 claiming to be from HMRC. The caller, calling himself Denis Grey, warned me I'd face legal trouble if I didn’t ring that number straight away. Definitely feels like a scam to me. The pressure they put on you makes me think it might be one of those premium rate numbers designed to scam people. Watch out!

Got a recorded call just like others mentioned, really pushy and saying it's "URGENT"! Definitely a scam. Had a similar one round about a year back.

Got a call from 0845 862 2698, some recorded woman claiming to be Dennis from HMRC. She told me to ring back but nah, I’m not falling for it. There’s so many dodgy calls like this lately, really annoying! The authorities should really block this number asap.

Got a call from 08458622698, some bloke called Dennis Green claiming to be from HMRC about unpaid taxes. He kept mentioning legal action and said I should have my solicitor ring them. Sounds like a total scam to me.
