I actually work at HSBC, so I’m certain this number is legit. But here’s the thing: if you miss the call and try ringing back the same number, you’ll end up getting an automated message telling you to use an 03 number rather than the 08. Once you switch to the 03 number and call, it plays a message saying HSBC called and you don’t need to get in touch or take any action. Strange setup, but definitely genuine.

Today, a lady rang us up on two separate occasions, mentioning a name and claiming she was with "the bank". When we pressed her for the specific name of the bank, she chuckled rather awkwardly and mumbled something along the lines of, "well, that's a bit tricky, because we erm... can't really disclose that". They left a message stating, "You were called by HSBC, no action is necessary on your part, so there's no need to return the call." The peculiar thing is, we don’t even hold an account with HSBC or anything like that!

It appears to be HSBC. I recommend giving their main office a bell. Those pesky callers should be dealt with soon. We dialled the 0207991880 number (which doesn’t cost a penny!) and managed to get ourselves removed from their call list. Fantastic news!!!

Blimey, these chaps decided to give us a bell at 10:50 in the morning! Not the worst time, I suppose, but I'm on a night shift and trying to catch some z’s. Struggling to sleep during daylight hours isn’t easy, and it really put a dampener on things. To top it off, they didn’t bother leaving a voicemail, which usually signals they’re keen to have a chat and likely drive us around the bend! Seems like this is the HSBC call centre based in India. They ring us up constantly-like clockwork-especially when we’re just at the tipping point of our overdraft. The moment we hit that limit, it’s as if they’ve got our number on speed dial. We've taken to saving their digits, so we know exactly who’s on the other end of the line, giving us the chance to gather a bit of cheek for when we pick up.

22nd October 2014 I received a call from this number, and it seemed to be an Asian gentleman on the other end. He claimed to represent HSBC, yet he was rather evasive about the purpose of his call. All he wanted was my date of birth, saying it was to confirm my identity as Mrs. ........ I decided to end the call, though I did ponder over providing him with a fictitious birth date just to see what he’d come back with next!
