Beware, this is a fraud! I urge you to check other websites for verification. Always safeguard your personal details and refrain from sharing them over the phone!

This number is absolutely a legitimate HMRC contact. Don’t let anyone lead you astray with their claims. It’s linked to their debt management department, which handles both incoming and outgoing calls mainly about overpayments related to tax credits. Should this number ring you, it’s essential to return the call. If you’re feeling sceptical, and you’ve ever received tax credits, you can always reach out to the tax credit helpline to find out if you’ve received more than you were entitled to in past years. Keep in mind, the folks at the Tax Credit helpline won’t have any visibility on calls made by Debt Management, as they lack access to that specific database. However, they can certainly help connect you to DM if there is indeed an overpayment involved. Make sure to ring them back; this is definitely a valid call.

Received a call claiming they were holding something and asked us to return the call, referencing a national insurance number! Just a bloke from Scotland here, and I’m quite pleased we looked it up on this site.

This number called me too. Funny thing is, I rang HMRC on their official 0345 line the same day, and they said they hadn’t tried to get in touch with me. Usually, if it’s a real company like that, it shows up as a private number anyway. I reported it to HMRC, that’s what I did. x

Not sure if this number is really from HMRC Tax Credits or just someone pretending. The person on the other end kept asking for loads of private info but didn’t give me anything to prove who they were. They wanted all my bank details straight away, which immediately made me wary. When I asked for more info about them, they just said it wasn’t their job to share that. Tried to get through to someone else but they claimed they were the only person handling my case. I mentioned I’d already paid most of what was owed, but they ignored that and insisted it was urgent, pushing me to hand over my bank details. Honestly, it seemed like a dodgy mix of unprofessional and suspicious behaviour.

I've seen loads of reviews on different reverse number sites all saying this number is legit, but they all sound like they were copied and pasted from the same few people. Honestly, if HMRC were gonna contact you, they'd never just cold call out of the blue like this. So yeah, don't believe everything you read here.

Hey there. I got a voicemail from this number about owing HMRC some money and decided to call back. Turns out it's really them about an overpayment issue. They were quite nice and sorted things out. If you're worried about a similar overpayment, I reckon giving them a call wouldn’t hurt :)
