It’s linked to their debt management department, which handles both incoming and outgoing calls mainly about overpayments related to tax credits. Should this number ring you, it’s essential to return the call. If you’re feeling sceptical, and you’ve ever received tax credits, you can always reach out to the tax credit helpline to find out if you’ve received more than you were entitled to in past years. Keep in mind, the folks at the Tax Credit helpline won’t have any visibility on calls made by Debt Management, as they lack access to that specific database. I’ve been receiving calls from this particular number too. Curiously, on that very same day, I rang HMRC using their official 0345 number, and they assured me that they hadn’t made any calls to me. Typically, when legitimate companies reach out, it shows up as a private number. I’d recommend flagging it to HMRC - that's the route I took! xx

I’m rather sceptical about this number being a legitimate contact for HMRC Tax Credits. The chap I spoke to requested far too many sensitive details without offering any proof of his identity. When he started inquiring about my banking information, it instantly raised a red flag. I pressed him for more clarity, but he claimed it wasn’t his responsibility to provide any further details. When I asked to speak to someone else, he insisted that there was no one else available, claiming he was my sole case worker! I mentioned that I'd already paid a significant portion of the amount due, but he dismissed my claims without a second thought, insisting it was very serious and demanding that I share my bank details immediately. The entire interaction felt a concerning blend of unprofessional behaviour and outright dubiousness.
