Got a call from this number just now, they’re ringing again cause I was tied up earlier. Asked them to ring back at a certain time but they’re doing it way past that now! The bloke on the phone had a strong Indian accent and I struggled to catch what he was saying. Claimed he was calling from HMRC. Not really sure if this is legit or just a dodgy scam...

I’m convinced this wasn’t really HMRC calling, it felt more like some kind of data thief. They left a voicemail and asked us to ring back around 8pm the next day. But they wouldn’t say who they were unless we gave them ‘security answers’, including our National Insurance Number - something HMRC has never asked us for before. They claimed it was about money we supposedly owe, but we actually have a meeting booked with HMRC next month to sort out a dispute over their letters. When we mentioned this to them, they just went quiet! Surely if these were genuine HMRC people, they’d be aware of our case or be able to check it easily. It all comes across as a scam. I’ve been looking online and lots of others report similar stuff. Please don’t give out any of your info to these callers.

Got a call from some bloke saying he was from HMRC about my mate’s tax return. Sounded a bit dodgy to me, so I hung up straight away. Definitely don’t trust unexpected calls about tax stuff!
