I can confirm that this is the number I contact for child maintenance matters; it’s definitely not some dodgy caller trying to pull a fast one.

I received a call on the 9th of March from 0845 266 8793 while I was out and about. I’m currently ex-directory with a fresh number, known only to three people. Upon dialling the number, I discovered that the last digit had to be swapped out for a 2. I’ve yet to make the call. When I conducted a quick web search with that alteration, it linked to Child Benefit services. Now, at 64 and never having been wed, I can’t help but wonder what that suggests. Could this be a scam? The government truly ought to intervene and implement stricter laws to label all unsolicited calls as criminal offences!
