Got a call from this number today but ignored it, I don't pick up unknown numbers unless they’re saved. Looked it up and found this site. Funny enough, I just got my renewal notice from Direct Line Insurance last week, so it matches what others are saying here. I’d rather ring them myself than get a call and risk giving out my banking details. When or if I do renew, I’ll definitely tell them not to call me again.

On a Wednesday night, 10th August 2016 around 7:30pm, my wife's phone rang even though the car insurance is on auto-renew and paid by me. The caller didn’t say how they got her number. She then asked me to verify my home address. Since I hadn’t made the call, I felt it was up to her to prove who she was before I gave any details, but she refused to give any confirming info until I said what she wanted. So I just ended the call.

Blimey, missed a call from Direct Line! Maybe they’re finally going to address my structural claim that’s been dragging on for 12 years now without a proper fix. They fixed my house twice already, but both times the repairs didn’t last even a day. Hopefully, they’ve got a new engineer who doesn’t rush things this time! Seriously, be cautious about insuring with Direct Line - their adverts look great but their customer service is shockingly bad, and the repairs are even worse. Have a look at their Facebook page and read the complaints before you throw your cash at them.

Got a call saying it was from direct line, they told me the first bit of my address and asked for my house number. Then they gave me the first bit of my postcode and wanted the rest. Regarding the two comments down there, I just got a call from a manager at UK Insurance (Direct Line and Churchill) who actually apologised. She agreed the calls do come across like phishing attempts. I’ve recommended they switch up how they do the calls. They’re annoying, sure, but apparently not dangerous.

12/7/2016. I reckon I’ve figured it out. These calls seem to come from Direct Line, which is part of Insurance UK. The number 0845 246 6401 is for outgoing calls only and can’t receive any. When I switched it to the Direct Line style 0345 246 6401,, it redirected me to 0345 246 6450. The person on the other end knew exactly what was going on. Give them a shout - they’ll explain everything. I suggested they give their call centre staff better training so they know about this issue. I’ve marked it as safe, meaning it’s not harmful, but it definitely isn’t ideal.

Some woman called claiming to be from Direct Line, wanting to talk about my policy renewal that’s supposedly coming up. I told her I wasn’t interested and she just hung up. Afterwards I phoned Direct Line myself but the person I spoke to seemed unsure if the call had really come from them. If it wasn’t official, that’s even dodgier. How else would she know my home number and that my policy needed renewing? Feels like it was actually Direct Line but they don’t want to admit it. Whatever the truth, it’s enough to make me consider switching insurers.

My renewal for Direct Line insurance is coming up, and it looks like it won't renew automatically. I didn't pick up this call, but I reckon it was them. Since Churchill is under the Direct Line umbrella as well. I think comparison sites often sell your renewal info to other companies, so I’d take it as a nudge to ring my insurer directly.

Got a call from this number and a woman said she was from Direct Line about my car insurance renewal. I then messaged Direct Line on Facebook and they replied saying that this number isn’t connected to them. Would be careful with this one. Like others mentioned, she wouldn’t explain why she was calling until I confirmed some info, which I wasn’t happy to do. She also said I could ring back anytime.

I didn't share any details with the person who called me but I phoned Direct Line myself and it’s their renewals team, they ring if you haven’t responded to a renewal notice. Even so, I’d be careful and suggest you contact Direct Line through their official number just to be safe :)
