I went ahead and returned the call before realising it was a total scam, having forgotten that I was expecting a call from my car insurance provider. Feeling rather cheeky, I fired off a text to the number: "You’re nothing but a scammer. This is a private work phone, and you have no right to my number. Cold calling me is illegal. I've saved your number. If you dare to contact me again, I won't hesitate to involve the authorities." I must admit, sending that message gave me a bit of satisfaction! I engaged with the scammer from the number 0745 491 7912 and said: "The individual who introduced themselves as 'MMS' isn't answering their telephone when I try to get through. A quick online search shows that numerous folks have received text messages urging them to dial 08448773130 with the same reference number: 332187. If you genuinely have any business with me, you would possess my address, so I encourage you to send me a letter detailing what it is you’re after." I would recommend that anyone else who gets similar spam messages take similar action and consider reporting it to 7726. Though to be honest, don’t expect to see a reply anytime soon!

Should you wish to do something about it, simply pass on the text you've received-make sure to include the caller's number along with the one they're asking you to ring-by sending it to 7726. Your mobile provider will then be able to flag it as SPAM and take steps to curb such activities.
