It's obvious that someone is making money off of these calls. Why is it so hard to figure out who's listed for the number and who's footing the bill? It's pretty upsetting that folks can get nicked for hanging about in a shop or down the road, but these smart scams manage to rake in loads and barely face any consequences.

Like someone mentioned earlier, it feels like these folks are just after a few pennies from anyone who’s not paying attention - could be more if you hang on too long. Really appreciate this site, because I was actually waiting for a call from Virgin Media. My landline’s been down for three weeks now, and I’d sent them an email asking for an engineer. The only way to contact them is through a premium rate line, so I called, pretty desperate. They put me on hold with music - six songs, no joke - twice! Honestly, it’s no different from these scammy calls trying to nick a few pennies. Those 08** numbers should be banned, seriously. Companies ought to have at least one normal, local landline for customers to call. Premium rate lines? Total rip-offs.

Dont even bother messaging back, it's just a spam caller. You should send it to your network's spam help team. All phone companies have one of these services. I use O2 and just send the message to 7726 and they reply to confirm they've got it. Give that a go!

This came from a mobile number +447463776553. Since I'd handed my phone number over to an estate agent for a background check, I almost phoned the number back. Glad to have read the info here before doing anything silly.

Avoid calling that number at all costs! I tried ringing +447463013750 from my mobile after getting a message, and ended up stuck on hold for over 13 minutes with no one picking up. The message sounded urgent, something like "IMPORTANT: We've been trying to reach you, it's important we speak..." Don't fall for it. I reckon it’s just a trick to hike up your phone charges. Just leave it alone.
