I just found out from Action Fraud UK that this number is dodgy. Someone with an Asian female voice called me, pretending to be from a TV company and trying to sell upgrades and discounts. If you can, block the number, but if not, just don’t bother answering. The scammers seem to be using numbers like “08447111444”, “02035190197” and “08001514141”. The callers reportedly speak with an Asian accent and sound like women.

Got a call from some bloke saying he was Virgin Media, telling me my card was expiring and they’d post a replacement. Sounds dodgy to me because Virgin Media doesn’t actually give out cards like that. Definitely a scam, watch out!

Got a call like others mentioned, this woman said she was from Virgin Media saying my TV card was about to expire and they’d send me a new one. Then she asked for my address and I told her they should already have it. She went on to recite an old address I left years ago after an accident. Used to do those phone surveys years back ‘cos I was stuck at home and it was nice to have a chat with someone. Anyhow, when I told her my current address she just ended the call. Sorry about the caps, didn’t notice my keyboard was stuck on it - I’m a slow typer who looks at the keys a lot!

My elderly Dad got a call from a woman pretending to be from Virgin Media. She told him his Virgin SIM card was outdated and suggested an upgrade to his package. She then asked for his bank info, and unfortunately he trusted her and handed it over. Not long after, a man rang claiming to be from the bank’s fraud team, saying Dad needed to move his savings to a new account they'd created for his protection. The bloke sounded legit, and Dad bought it, ending up losing all his money. I’m beyond angry about the whole thing.

My Dad got a call from this number yesterday. The bloke on the line called himself "Phil" and was chatting away, saying since Dad's a pensioner, he could get a free box upgrade and pay less each month. He sounded really nice and friendly, but then asked for Dad’s bank details. Luckily Dad was sharp and said no, as Virgin already have his info. Then "Phil" just ended the call. When Dad rang Virgin afterwards, they said they hadn't rung him at all. Please warn your loved ones about this kinda scam. These dodgy people targeting older folks are just awful!

Someone rang my mum pretending to be from Virgin Media, saying they needed to send a new card for the TV box because there's been issues with sound and picture. But I got doubtful straight away, cos the newer V6 boxes don’t even use a viewing card. Then the caller started asking for bank details, which was a massive red flag. I told him if he was legit, Virgin Media would already have that info, but he said he just wanted to confirm it with us. I replied that if the card thing was true, I’d phone Virgin Media myself to sort it out. He tried to keep me talking for longer but I just ended the call. This is a classic phishing attempt/profiling technique. People need to be careful, especially older folks who might get caught out by this.

Got a call from this number today, some bloke telling me my Sky subscription was ending soon and then tried to sell me a 40% discount since I'm a loyal customer. How they had my info is beyond me. As soon as they asked for my bank info I hung up. After a quick Google search, turns out it's a total scam. What really upset me was how they somehow knew my husband had passed away.

To "verify" I was the account holder, he asked me a bunch of security questions, like my date of birth. So, I got a call from a guy speaking with an Asian accent claiming to be from Sky TV. He confirmed my name and then said my Sky card was due to expire in a week. He proceeded to say they’d dispatch a replacement card to my home address, which he actually read out loud. Then he asked me some security questions to prove I was the account owner, starting with my date of birth. I had a funny feeling about the whole thing and told him straight up I don’t give out personal details over the phone. After that, he just hung up. Definitely a phishing attempt - watch out!

So I called Sky back using a different number and they told me it wasn’t them calling and that the number I got is not theirs. When I tried calling the original number again, a voice said the line was closed and then it just went straight to engaged. Felt like a total scam to me.
