Got a call on Sunday from some insurance claims cold callers, but it wasn’t a premium rate number - looked it up on the Ofcom site, turns out it was an 084 number. When you ring 0843, 0844 or 0845 numbers, you’re paying two things: one fee goes to your phone provider, and another fee is the service charge the company you’re calling decides. For 084 numbers, the service fee can range anywhere from no extra cost up to 7p a minute.

Got a rather shady call from 0844 648 0214 on Saturday, 14th November 2015 at precisely 4:40 PM. It was a rather tiresome three-ring affair. Just a heads up, don’t even think about ringing them back; it’ll set you back 35 pence a minute! They're clearly after your cash. I suggest you save the number in your contacts as "Do Not Answer." Stay savvy!

Got a call today. Total nuisance. Rang the number from my work line. They asked, "Have you or anyone you know been involved in an accident? If so, you could claim thousands in compensation." Honestly, this sounds really dodgy. (1) People don’t get “victim” of an accident - they have one. (2) You’re not GUARANTEED compensation. You MAY be able to claim something.

I had a similar experience recently; my phone chimed twice and then went silent before I could grab it. When I called back, lo and behold, it was yet another pitch about claims for accidents. I’m on the T.P.S. list, so I’ll definitely be lodging a complaint with both the T.P.S. and the I.C.O. - turns out the caller was just a pre-recorded message.
