I got caught out too - ended up with a £20 charge just for ringing an insurance firm to get a quote. These lot are total thieves. Mobile networks should really do something about these dodgy calls, but I reckon they probably make money off them too.

I rang MCE to ask about insurance and was stuck listening to awful hold music for what felt like forever. When I finally got through, the quote was shockingly about £150 more expensive than what I’d seen on a comparison website, even though I gave them exactly the same info. I got really annoyed and tried calling a couple more times, but the terrible music drove me nuts so I ended up hanging up. Then I spotted some texts from them advertising cheap deals, so I thought I’d try again. After spending nearly an hour and a half on the phone, I had a bad feeling and checked my phone bill. Turns out the call charges added up to over £50! What a rip-off. Won’t be doing that again. Watch out for this.

I called MCE to sort out an insurance quote payment. The bloke I spoke to said he couldn’t hear me properly, so he put me on hold. After waiting a few minutes, I hung up and dialled back. This time, a woman picked up and understood me clearly. After what felt like endless pointless questions, I was put on hold again for a handful of minutes. Finally, I got to pay, only to realise it cost me 25p a minute just to listen to awful music while waiting for someone who hardly spoke English to handle the payment. Quite a frustrating experience!
