I've lodged a complaint with both the ICO and Ofcom. At first, I didn’t realise it was a scam. I received a text claiming to be from O2, offering an early upgrade for a free iPad. I called the number and spoke with a woman who put me on hold to 'check availability'. After two minutes, I hung up. It’s clearly a ruse designed to get you on the line while they charge for the call, as they rake in revenue from those 0844 numbers. I received a message prompting me to upgrade my O2 Pay Monthly plan ahead of schedule, with the enticing offer of a complimentary Apple iPad. The message mentioned limited availability and urged me to act quickly by dialling 0844 3308015. Just so you know, I’m also notifying O2 about this!
