Got a call from a stranger number, and instead of sorting out what I was calling about, they just hung up on me without a word. I really don’t know how they got hold of my number, which is quite baffling. If anyone legit can shed some light, I’d appreciate it. Cheers. Also, they left a message saying “your silver Mercedes Benz is ready for pickup” but I’ve never owned one in my life!

I haven’t had a call from this exact number, but they’re definitely sticking with the 084398 prefix. They’ve started ringing from fresh numbers and dropping those annoying PPI texts. These lot should be locked away, honestly. I've had them pestering me with calls for well over a year, even when I was travelling abroad. I block one number and next thing, they’re ringing from a different one. Occasionally they ring and leave me on voicemail, where there’s a recorded message with an option to press 9 and opt out. Thing is, I’m nervous that if I actually pick up and do that, they’ll know I answered and just bother me even more or pass my number on to another bunch of annoying morons. There really ought to be a proper law to stop this kind of harassment.

Just head over to the ICO website and fill in their easy online form to report it. The more people who complain about a number, the more likely they are to take action and fine those companies who keep making spam calls. If you only moan on these forums nothing ever changes, cos these sites are just for us to check who’s calling. Takes less than five minutes to report, so why not do it?

I've been flooded with calls - even on my work phone, which is only given to colleagues and clients. Like someone mentioned before, their voicemails are somehow ending up on my computer. Luckily, our security filters block any attachments but it's really irritating. I doubt the government wants to tackle this issue, seems like someone is profiting a lot from those who actually pick up, or maybe just from the sheer volume of calls. I've also spotted the same voice many times, pushing PPI or accident claims, even though the caller ID changes.

If you get yourself a BT 8500 phone, you can easily block any annoying calls - it’s seriously great for keeping those pests at bay.

Just got another one to add to my block list. I divert all landline calls to my mobile now and block numbers like this straight away. It's the best way I’ve found to deal with it. There’s also apps that identify telemarketers so you don’t even have to pick up. They’re really making life difficult, especially for my elderly parents who get about three calls a day. They always try to be polite and just say no, but most times they end up getting rude responses instead.

Just found out that numbers beginning with 0843 are non geographic and usually linked to VOIP systems, meaning they could be coming from anywhere across the globe via a computer. These are premium rate numbers, so calling them will end up costing you. My advice? Don’t pick up or return calls from any 0843 number - better to block or hang up straight away if they ring you.

Never pick up, call back, or press any buttons to unsubscribe since that could end up charging you. Report it to the ICO (ico.org.uk) through the nuisance calls section. It might not stop the calls straight away, but it helps the ICO gather proof to go after them. Back in April, they fined a firm £80,000 for nuisance calls (Action we've taken) and are pushing the government for more authority to deal with these issues. Most of these calls are breaking the Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), or as we like to call it, pecker.

I didn’t pick up when they called, but some time after, a voicemail was dropped from 07967617817. The bloke was slurring his words and talking nonsense, like he was well out of it. He did mention he’d rung me earlier that day, mind.

So, I picked up the phone and they said they'd been trying to get in touch with me. They asked me to press 5 to speak to someone. I wanted to know who I was talking to, so I didn't give my name but asked for their company name. They said it was Claims Direct. I told them I had never made any kind of claim, not with them or any PPI company. Then, they just ended the call. Fingers crossed they don’t ring me again... number was 0843 980 1260.

PPI caller got a bit dodgy when I brought up Ofcom - wouldn't say which firm they were from. You might wanna put this number up on [#]stopthep###s[###] as well, they usually get in touch with these companies to get their numbers taken down. If they keep hassling people, Ofcom will definitely get involved.
