Got one of those recorded messages saying I’d been in some accident or whatever, just the usual nonsense! Honestly, it’s best to avoid calling these scam numbers. If you do want to ring back, remember 0843 numbers have two separate charges: a Service Charge (up to 7p each minute, which goes to whoever owns the number) plus an Access Charge from your phone provider. The numbers I got were 0843 980 1250, 1251 and also 1240. Be careful with these!

This number has called me heaps of times, but I just mark unknown numbers as spam using Mr Number. It’s a free app, though sadly not for iPhones. With it, you can block calls or texts from strangers or anyone you don’t wanna hear from. It actually ends the call before it even rings and gives you a warning when you try to call back. Really handy.

I’m in telecoms and deal with these annoying calls a lot. If you get a ring from either 0843980 or 0843724, best thing is to just block it and report it to Ofcom via their site. The more folks complain, the better chance something actually happens. Don’t waste your time answering!

I got a ring from this number when I wasn't home. Didn’t recognise it at all, so I looked it up and have since blocked it. My number’s on the TPS list, but that only helps within the UK. Even though this looks like a UK number, it might be coming from abroad. If you want to stop these nuisance calls, the best thing is to report them to Ofcom or whatever the current regulator is called. One complaint by itself probably won’t lead to anything, but if loads of people report the same number, they might take notice. Just sharing the number here won’t get it sorted out. Heads up, you might want to block 08439801205 aswell (the one ending in 5) since it's the same firm. There are apps for both Android and Apple now that let you block numbers using wildcards - for example, putting in 0843* will stop any calls beginning with 0843. Just got a call from 08439801204 myself.
