Imagine a system where we could earn credits on our phone bills for every second we endure their calls-let's say a modest 2 pence per second, with a baseline pay of £1 simply for picking up the phone. Well, I was pretty let down after checking this site like I usually do when random numbers ring me up, only to find out it wasn’t actually dear old Fiona Philips calling, planning to pop over with some massive cheque covered in digits and hang out for a brew. Then it hit me, I never even enter that Lottery!

I just missed a call from 08439801202, so I decided to ring it back. Turns out it’s some outfit called Review Experts, offering to talk about pensions. But at just 22 years old and without any retirement savings to speak of, I can only assume it’s a case of cold calling - total waste of time!

It appears I'm not the only one who's had the misfortune of receiving a call from this number. They rang me bright and early this morning, at around 9am no less! Naturally, I chose not to pick up, but it does leave me pondering how on earth they obtained my number. I can't shake the feeling that they might be up to no good, preying on unsuspecting individuals to line their own pockets. I reckon that the mobile provider EE has possibly handed off my number to some third-party for unsolicited calls. I don’t even use EE myself, but a mate of mine borrowed my phone to ring them up about an issue just yesterday. Up until now, I’ve never had to deal with such nuisance calls, so it’s rather obvious what’s happened. I've gone ahead and put that number on my blocked list. - Caller: Likely to be a cold caller associated with EE, if I’m not mistaken.

I received a call on my mobile that was nothing more than an automated message, and it really threw me off while I was trying to focus on my student. It's baffling that this number hasn’t faced any consequences. Why is that?

I assumed it was about a job I applied to. I ended the call since I was at work but rang back shortly after only to get a voicemail telling me to "Press 9 or 5 to grab these special offers". Just another telemarketer ringing.

There’s one way to really annoy these idiots - when they ring or say they’ll call back, just go along with it. Then, drag the convo out for as long as possible. Pretend to not get it, keep asking them to repeat themselves over and over. Keep mixing things up, ask for clearer explanations again and again. Share your (fictional) life story at length, chuck in some tales about crazy relatives that their words remind you of. Make it seem like you’re losing it in a hilarious way. The longest I’ve lasted so far is 16 minutes. Can anyone top that?
