Phone number ☎️ 08438869035 👆 is reported as a scam involving fraudulent text messages impersonating banks like Santander and Barclays, warning recipients of suspicious transactions to prompt them to call costly premium-rate numbers. Users advise against calling these numbers, as doing so can result in unexpectedly high phone bills. Phone companies like Vodafone may refund charges if contacted promptly, but there is concern and confusion regarding liability for the incurred expenses. The messages often lack clear cost information as required by law, and the calls typically lead to unhelpful call centres or long hold times. 10 yearsHey, just wanted to share my experience. I’m with Vodafone and got hit with a dodgy £40 fee, but luckily they agreed to take it off. It’s obviously a scam, so definitely don’t pay up - it’s crooks that your phone company ends up funding. If you want, I can help or you can tell me how things go on your end. There was no message beforehand saying what the call would cost, which is meant to be a legal requirement, so I wasn’t expecting a bill. Vodafone explains it on their website like this: from July 1st, 2015, calls to certain numbers are charged in two parts - an access charge by your provider, plus a service charge set by whoever you called. The provider has to show exactly what you’re paying for so you’re not caught out. Hope this info helps!Vodafone10 yearsAvoid this number - it’s a total scam, don’t bother calling!10 yearsGot a message that looked like it was from Santander, asking if I tried to make a payment of £1303 to something called Argo on 08/11/16. It said to reply 'Y' if I did, or ring 08438869035 if not. Problem is, I don't even have an account with Santander!SantanderArgo10 yearsI popped into my local bank to sort this out, turns out it’s a scam. Do not ring that number, it’ll just cost you money. I never made any payments to Argos, yet I got two texts - one claiming it was Santander, the other Barclays! Proper dodgy.ArgosSantanderBarclays10 yearsMy partner started getting texts from what looked like Santander about our mortgage application, and everything seemed legit since they had all our info and told us to phone the official Santander 0800 number. But today, he got another text from the same 'Santander' number asking if he’d made a £1303 purchase at Argos - if not, to ring an 0843 number. As he was working, he thought it was genuinely the bank and ended up waiting on hold for an hour and a half! Afterwards he rang Vodafone but was directed to some call centre that didn’t seem to get what he was saying at all. I’m honestly so worried he’s going to get a huge phone bill now! Does anyone know how this usually works and if he’ll have to pay for all that time on hold?SantanderArgosVodafone10 yearsGot a message too, but I don’t have an account with that bank. Was worried maybe someone had set one up pretending to be me. Is there any sort of hotline to report stuff like this?10 yearsGot a message saying someone tried to spend £1303 at Argos using my Santander account, asking me to call them to verify. I rang the number they gave, ended up waiting on hold for like 5 minutes but then got really wary and just hung up before speaking to anyone. Sounds like they’re either trying to scam details or just racking up phone charges. Still waiting for my bank statement, so no clue how much those calls might have set me back!ArgosSantander10 yearsGot a call saying Barclays were doing a fraud check and asked if we tried to buy something from Argos for £1303. Problem is, we don’t even have an account with Barclays haha!BarclaysARGOS10 yearsGot a call asking me to confirm a transaction on my bank account, which felt kinda odd. Didn’t expect it and wasn’t sure if it was legit or a scam, so I had to check it out before giving any info.Submit Your Own Report (0843 886 9035)
