When you ring up, you’re greeted by a seemingly legitimate call centre that gives off a very polished impression, making you think you’re actually in contact with Barclays Bank. But trust me, you’re not speaking to anyone from Barclays at all! The individual on the line poses as a representative and claims there have been some dubious transactions on your account, then probes you about whether your card was used for these hefty charges. If you express doubt about the transactions, he spins a tale asking you to utilise your Barclays Pin Sentry device to cancel these fraudulent charges. Once you provide him with the code from that machine, oddly enough, the line cuts off and - just like that - your money vanishes from your bank account.
