I’ve never done telesales or cold calling myself, but it makes sense that if they use an automated dialler to ring numbers from a database and then patch you through to a sales agent once you pick up, any calls you miss will just stay on the list. So they keep trying over and over until someone actually talks to them. Honestly, just pick up, say you’re living in rented accommodation and not responsible for the utilities, then ask nicely for your number to be taken off their calling list. That way you might get them to stop bothering you.
