I hit 5 to try and talk to a person, hoping to catch the company name. A bloke picked up, said his name was Nathan, but there was loads of background noise like a call centre or summat. So I got a phone call at about 5.12 pm today, said it was my final opportunity to sort out some PPI that I supposedly owed. They warned if I didn’t act now, I'd be removed from their list and wouldn’t be able to make any claims later on. When I asked who they wanted to speak to, they just cut me off. I've come across various sources suggesting that this number is linked to an AXA telemarketing operation aimed at promoting their insurance products. I’m keen to understand how they justify having my number under the UK's Data Protection Act, particularly considering that I don’t actively use this number and certainly haven’t given them permission to use it for unsolicited calls (and just to clarify, I never grant that sort of permission). That covers everything - my name, if I’ve been in an accident, where I live, how long I’ve been there, and so on. Whenever they start going on about their company or try to ask me more questions, I just repeat that line, this time putting extra stress on ANY information - sometimes adding that it includes confirming or denying anything they ask. I kinda treat it like a little challenge (smiling to keep it light), seeing how many times I can say the same thing before they finally get annoyed and hang up. I’ve made it through about four or five repeats, even had them pass me on to a supervisor once.
