My mum had a fantastic trick for handling those pesky cold callers and making sure they took her number off their lists straight away. She’d say, "Thanks for calling me today, I live alone and don’t get many chats in a week. Hold on a moment while I put the kettle on, then we can have a proper natter." Then she’d leave the phone down without hanging up, and by the time she came back a few mins later, the caller would always have gone.

Had this PPI caller ring me over and over again, really annoying!

Got a robo call about PPI claims, so I pressed 5 hoping to chat with a real person. Instead, I just heard giggling and shouting in the background. After waiting ages with no reply, I finally gave up and ended the call. - caller: PPI Cold Caller

Nearly every day my phone rings from this number! I just leave the call unanswered. Looks like one of those PPI claim lines. Caller was 08437240319.

I've honestly lost count of how many times 0843 7240319 and the numbers linked to it keep ringing me. Every time I block one and press 9 to opt out, the very next day, a fresh one shows up. I've even reported it to the ICO. I know it might not seem like a lot, but I reckon the more people flag these numbers, the better the odds of shutting them down. If it’s something important, they’ll usually leave a message, and if not, then it’s just pointless calls again. Honestly, I don’t get why people get so worked up about it. Just to clear things up, this isn't some PPI call at all. It’s actually a Claims Management Company wanting to sort out your PPI but charging you an absurd fee for it! We as consumers can handle complaints ourselves and still get to keep all the cash along with 8% interest on top, which is totally legal! So don’t put the blame on the PPI people, it’s these dodgy CMCs who are the real scam artists. Do your homework before you ring back! - caller: 08437240319

Honestly, you should try signing up with the telephone preference service and put in a complaint. That way they might look into the callers and maybe slap them with a fine or even close them down. If loads of folks report them, chances are higher they’ll get penalised. Sounds like they deserve it anyway, calling nonstop like that is just so irritating.

Got another call about some PPI refund, total scam. They just blast their robo calls out and couldn’t give a toss about who picks up. Tried to mention the TPS but they just brushed it off, saying it’s not a sales call but 'research' or summat, so they reckon it’s alright to ring. Absolute joke.

Got three calls today on my work phone. After the third one, 'cause it's not my cash they're after, I pressed 5. A bloke with a Welsh accent answered, and I told him to take my number off their list since it’s a business line and I’m not giving them anything. He said, "Yes sir, I'll sort that out, don't wanna waste my time or my firm's." I reminded him I’m the one wasting time here, just hanging up on his calls. He got really rude then and started "googling" my number, calling me a nuisance caller!! When I asked for his name and the company he was with, he just hung up on me - bit suspicious, innit?

I reckon I’ve cracked it. A letter from my local Electoral Services popped through, saying something like "Your vote counts. Changes to how you register..." Inside it mentioned the electoral register has all the names and addresses of everyone eligible to vote. Then there’s this thing called the open register, which is a separate list that’s not used for voting but can be bought by anyone - companies, organisations, whoever. You actually have to get in touch with them if you want your details off that list! So I’m thinking it’s probably the council selling your info to make a quick buck. I weren’t on the list before, then got that letter, and suddenly my phone was ringing off the hook - my answerphone was getting 30+ calls a day! Eventually I called them up, asked to be removed, and bam - the numbers dropped down to 5-8 calls daily. I just let the answerphone handle their messages now! Stu

Im proper sick of this lot, no clue who they are but they ring me like 3 to 5 times a day. Every time i answer and start complaining, they just hang up on me. Honestly, it’s driving me mental and i’m nearly ready to switch my number just to get some peace.

I got a call from that number and they claimed it was about pensions. I just ended the call without pressing any buttons.

i pressed 5 to see who was calling, they said they were from a company i’d never heard of. when i asked where they got my number from, they refused to say and as soon as i mentioned ive never claimed PPI, they just hung up on me. this number is definitely another scam, so no chance i’ll be picking up again.

Got a robo call supposedly from "the refund dept" about a PPI claim. I hit option 5 and ended up talking to some bloke called Craig. Asked him which company he was with and he just cut me off. Total scam, caller name was Craig.

This number kept calling me, so I finally picked up and followed the instructions to press 5. A bloke came on the line asking if I had any credit cards with them. When I didn’t give him the info he wanted, he just ended the call. Not sure if talking to him was a mistake or not.

I decided to call the number back, had to listen to some annoying spiel, then they gave me the option to press 9 to unsubscribe. After that, a message said I was taken off their list.
