Just a heads up, the 08435 158650 number isn’t directly from the DWP, it’s actually controlled by some third-party that’s not legit. They make you pay a service fee for calling. What happens is your call gets redirected to a real DWP office and then someone answers. If you want to get through without any extra fees, you should ring the official DWP number which is 0800 169 0310.

I had quite the nightmare with my ESA - they really scrambled things up. I decided to give them a ring, and the recording assured me it was free. Can you believe I ended up on hold for almost an hour? When I finally got through, the conversation lasted just a mere five minutes, yet I was slapped with a bill of £35.61. I can’t fathom why anyone would call such a premium line when the CAB could handle that for me at zero cost. Honestly, it’s utterly ridiculous.

I got a call from what said it was the DWP, or Department for Work and Pensions, but it just kept ringing from about 5pm till almost 6 and no one ever picked up. Now I’m stuck with a £32 charge for a call that went unanswered! There was no heads up about how pricey this number was. Honestly, I think it’s a bit of a rip-off. Shouldn’t there be some kind of alert to warn you before you rack up such a costly call, so you can decide whether to hang up or not?

It’s the DWP on the line. Just a heads up, calling them hits your pocket pretty hard since it’s a premium rate number. I was on the phone for about ten minutes and ended up shelling out more than £2! I contacted them to let them know that I've reached pension age and, as a result, am no longer eligible for ESA, and yet here I was, paying to tell them! Quite the irony, isn't it?
