When there’s a lull of two or three minutes on the line, it's pretty clear we're dealing with an automated dialler or perhaps some sort of call centre. Because of this, we typically hang up the moment that silence hits.

Received a call at quarter to ten this morning. The caller claimed they had something important to discuss with me, but refused to disclose either their name or the company they represented. Quite the odd situation, I must say!
