I just received a text message from Santander enquiring about a transaction of £1940 made on 13th December 2016 to Currys. However, I do not have a Santander account nor have I ever had one. Despite this, I decided to call the provided number out of curiosity and to investigate the matter. The call put me on hold in a queue of 9 people, but it seemed legitimate with classical music and automated messages playing. Since I called from my workplace, I didn't mind staying on the line to see how it played out. Unfortunately, I eventually had to hang up as the wait was taking forever. It seems to me that the intention behind this scam is to trick individuals into calling a premium-rate line that charges exorbitant fees.
