I've just had a similar encounter - complete quiet followed by a recorded voice saying 'goodbye' before disconnecting. Normally, we shy away from answering calls from unknown numbers, but I didn't think to double-check this time since I was anticipating a call from someone else. Received a call from this number, but all I got was silence. Then, out of nowhere, a mechanical voice chimes in with a curt ‘goodbye’ before the line went silent. It all felt very artificial. I have no idea who it could be, but we’ve decided it’s best to avoid answering any future calls from them.
