Got a call where the person was saying how lovely my garden looked.. I was proper surprised to hear that. Then it hit me, I actually live on the 15th floor of an apartment building with no garden at all!

For the past couple years, I’ve been getting calls from numbers starting with 08438, like this 0843868274, at least twice a day. It’s really annoying. The phone rings around three times then they hang up. The numbers always change but always start with the same digits. I have an old phone and no clue how to block these calls.

Got a missed call and I called back, only to find out it was a premium rate number - a proper scam from overseas crooks. Make sure you report it to '<a href="https://www[.]actionfraud[.]police[.]uk/report-phishing">Action Fraud</a>'. The only way we can take these scammers down is by reporting every single one to the police and that site. Don’t just assume someone else will do it. Loads of vulnerable folks are getting tricked, and it's on us to put an end to it.

08430500645 - The phone rang a couple of times before cutting off just as I was about to pick up. This is a 'premium rate' line. As per OFCOM's guidelines, these calls can set you back anything from 1p to 13p per minute if you’re using a landline, and there’s also a 'connection charge' to consider. For mobiles, it tends to be pricier, ranging from 5p to 41p per minute, contingent on your service provider and the specific number dialled. It seems like a blatant ruse to entice you into returning the call, which would, of course, line the pockets of the company behind it. Best to steer clear and not ring them back!

I've received calls from this number myself. It seems likely they're hoping you'll return the call. This could end up being quite expensive for you, and it's probably how they generate their income.
