I don’t get how something like this manages to slip past things like McAfee and other security programmes? It’s weird these systems don’t catch it.

This was pretty much the same experience a lot of others have mentioned. I got some weird alarm blaring through my speakers with a message saying I needed to call a number or my credit card info could be at risk, plus viruses and all that. I was daft and rung the number. A lady pretending to be from Google asked about my computer. I told her it wasn’t mine and she wanted the owner’s details. Luckily, I told her I wasn’t comfortable giving that info. Then she claimed it’d cost £150 to fix the issue. I just told her I'd have our IT bloke sort it and ended the call. Honestly, be careful, they sound so convincing it’s scary.

So, my mum, who isn’t great with technology, was nearly caught out by a scam today. She got a scary pop-up on her PC saying she had to ring the number shown or else her personal info would get nicked. She ended up ringing the number and spoke with a really unfriendly bloke. She even followed some of his instructions and let him control her computer before realising it was all dodgy and quickly ended the call. We’re now stressing about what info he might have got, so we’ve contacted the banks, changed all the passwords, and are getting someone to check her computer properly. Utterly dodgy - DO NOT EVER RING THAT NUMBER!!!

Just had this happen with Google too... my screen turned red and loads of warning sounds started, then everything just froze. A message popped up saying I had to ring that number or my data would be hacked by some virus. It's total rubbish, a complete scam. Don't even think about calling them!

Hey, I had the same thing happen to me. At first the guy was really polite, but as soon as I told him I didn’t have any cash, he quickly changed his tone.

I ended up looking up the number online and came across all these comments.

Cheers to everyone for the heads up!

I just went through something like what others mentioned here. I replied when they asked me to log in, but thankfully it never actually worked out. The bloke sounded Indian and was really rude and unprofessional, which made me sure this was a scam. When he started asking for payment, we just shut everything down and cut off the internet.

I had almost the same thing happen to me, my laptop screen suddenly went all red and a warning popped up saying someone was trying to hack me and steal my info. It told me to ring a number for assistance, which I did. They called me back and it was a guy with an Indian accent. But something just didn’t sit right with me, so I told him I thought it was a scam and hung up before handing over any details. Guess I was fortunate not to fall for it!

My tablet suddenly blasted this annoying alarm with a warning telling me to ring 08081891317. It looked pretty real at first glance. I gave the number a go but no one picked up, thankfully. Watch out folks, this seems like a scam!!

This happened to me too - my computer froze dead with a loud alarm and only a message telling me to ring a certain number. I naively phoned it, and the bloke said he was from Microsoft. Turns out it’s a scammer! DO NOT RING THAT NUMBER. He had a strong Indian accent but mixing in an American twang. I followed his steps, gave him remote access, and then he installed stuff to spy on me. No idea what info he grabbed. I had to ring my bank and change all my passwords after. He tried to charge me £99.99 and £49.99 (never mentioned currency clearly) to “fix” the viruses - when I said no, he got annoyed. I cut the call, got my computer sorted properly, and made sure no more rubbish like that sneaked in. Proper scary experience!

My laptop suddenly started making this annoying beeping noise and popped up a scary warning saying some virus was trying to steal my bank details and passwords. The message said it was a famous virus and told me to call a certain phone number or check out some website with a weird name like RDN/YahLover.worm or something. Couldn’t shut it down at all, had to just unplug the thing to stop it. Looks like there’s a fresh scam going around, so watch out for this!

A message popped up on my laptop saying I had a virus and to call the number provided. I couldn’t get to any of my files, so I decided to ring because it claimed to be Google tech support. They called me back, but by that time, the issue seemed fixed, so I informed them it was a false alarm. They spoke with an American accent, but I was wary about sharing any details.
