He then tried to press me into coughing up £379 for a cleanup or a 'one-off' fee of £99, claiming my IP address had been compromised, even though my computer was completely switched off at the time. While he droned on, I took a moment to look up the number, only to find it’s a blatant scam. Whatever you do, steer clear of this number - it’s linked to a firm in Alabama! I called them back using my landline and told them I’d report their dodgy practices to the authorities. The chap on the line suddenly fell mute.
