Thing is, only one person actually knows my number, so it looks like someone’s been cheeky and passed it to scammers. The only ring I get on that phone is from utility companies, people selling insulation, or solar panel folks.

REAL - Anglian Water I got a call from a really nice bloke earlier. He just wanted to confirm my standing order details and gave me a proper hand. Pretending to be Anglian Water and asking to talk to the account holder, this number has been blocked but they still leave a voicemail. If they really are Anglian Water, they can email me instead. If it’s about a bill, why call when it’s already been paid? I’m really suspicious of anyone ringing up asking for the account holder. If it’s legit, they’ve got my name, so why not use it in the message? This is the third time they’ve rung me in a week.

This number just called me and oddly, they knew my name and pretended to be from Anglian Water. Some bloke called Ian, who sounded really harmless, told me I owed money on my bill. I didn’t share any info and explained why. He told me I could ring the 0800 number to confirm it was actually Anglian Water. I told him I’ve never been phoned by them about any unpaid bill and usually would get a red notice if that was the case. His response? “I understand!” Well, that was very ‘understanding’ of him, wasn’t it!

Anglian Water use debt collectors to get money owed. It’s not really Anglian Water itself making the calls, but they are working for them in a way.
