I just saw this is supposedly from British Gas. Someone apparently from their team said something like "well at least I’m not on benefits, I have a job." That’s really awful. Just to clear things up - if you’re hearing from people claiming they’re not from British Gas, but they actually are contacting Sainsbury's Energy customers since that’s under BG too. These calls are totally free and actually help loads of people. If you really don’t want to get these calls, you can ask to be taken off the list, but be aware you might get another call round six months later. The government’s keen on energy companies fitting these meters and they’re aiming to make it a must by 2020.

To those calling us idiots or worse, I reckon when 2020 rolls around and these meters are compulsory and might even cost you, you’ll probably regret not agreeing sooner. We’re just doing our job, and honestly, better us than people just claiming benefits without working. If folks bothered to look up the real facts about these meters, they’d see they’re quite useful actually.

Don’t fall for these smart meter scams, it’s all a trick. You’ll end up paying way more on your energy bill, like six times as much. Plus, there’s worries about radiation causing health problems and even fires. If something goes wrong, good luck getting any compensation, not to mention wasted hours trying to sort it. If that’s genuinely the case, I’d appreciate receiving an official email from them. It feels as though they’re incentivised to replace human meter readers with smart meters. The incessant phone calls from the call centre are quite tiresome, so I've decided to block their number now.

I think it was British Gas that called me, but honestly all I heard was noise from a hectic office and nobody seemed to want to talk to me properly. They’re really terrible to deal with, yet I’m stuck in a contract with them at the moment.

Been getting nonstop calls from British Gas about their Smart Meters - like 7 missed in just the past hour alone. I’ve told them a few times already that I’m aware and not interested right now, and I can even order it online if I want. But they just keep ringing. Proper annoying, so I’ve finally blocked the number. Can't believe they keep pestering me like this every day, like 10 calls or more.

Don’t get tricked by British Gas SMART meters! Studies from universities show they charge you up to 6 times more than you should be paying. The batteries inside are not very reliable and can run out easily. The radiation they emit is way higher than normal. You can even find videos on YouTube of these meters catching fire. They’re also a security hazard as hackers have managed to break into them. Unlike the old-fashioned meters, these won’t last you 40 years. Plus, having one isn’t compulsory. They often mess up keeping your bills accurate as well. Loads of issues, honestly.

I was curious about getting a smart meter so I asked if it’d still function alright if I changed my energy supplier. They said no at the moment but promised some new software early next year that’ll fix that. I also made it clear I’m not interested in deals from cold calls.

Just like others have said, they kept ringing my landline. I told BGas straight up that the smart meter won't happen unless it's made mandatory. Tons of homes wouldn't even be suitable for them if they tried. These days, I've started using BT's 1572 service - it's free and lets you pick the last number you answered so you can block it from calling again. Pretty handy!

If this is British Gas ringing about smart meters, they’re just wasting their breath. We actually scrapped our smart meter installation appointment because of all the negative news around them. I really can’t understand why firms hire folks for call centres. Who in their right mind wants to spend hours ringing hundreds of people daily? They must be some kind of robots with no common sense. I never pick up if the number’s unfamiliar. If businesses are serious about offering me stuff, they should just send a letter. Every time I answer, the person on the other end makes no sense and can’t seem to talk properly. Why do these companies hire people who sound clueless and don’t bother to teach them how to speak on the phone? They said they were from British Gas, but when I asked them to prove it, they just kept saying my mobile number was on the account - which it’s definitely not, as I told them. When I pressed for evidence, they just kept asking me how I wanted them to prove it. Getting fed up, I started humming a lullaby to them, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” and I reckon they nodded off!

Just wanted to say, smart meters aren't mandatory - it's totally your decision. The government made it so energy companies need to ofer them to every home and small business around Great Britain by 2020, but you don't have to agree to get one. I reckon that's why they're ringing you. Be cautious and don't rush, say no if you're unsure and ring British Gas directly if you fancy switching to a smart meter. Remember, it’s not forced on you.

I've had loads of calls from this number, like seriously too many, feels almost like harassment. Seems like a proper cold caller to me. If they say they're from British Gas, they should be sending a letter about meter stuff and new rules with a proper contact number for questions. Honestly, I'd be wary of this one. This random number keeps ringing me up and it's getting really annoying. I never pick up calls from numbers I don't recognise and just let the voicemail get it, but guess what? There's never any message left. Honestly, someone should do something about these pest callers and catch them, maybe fine them heavily so they think twice. Feels pointless to even report or block it though, cos from what I hear they can switch their caller ID in a snap!

Got a visit from a bloke with British Gas about swapping my current meter for a smart one. He was really courteous, just confirmed the start of my postcode and didn’t push for any extra info. No pressure at all, which I appreciated. I’m glad to have it sorted since I’m fed up with those annoying estimated readings and having to do manual meter checks.

BG keeps calling me daily, so I’ve blocked the number now. Honestly, how many times do I need to say I’m NOT INTERESTED in their so-called smart meter? My elderly neighbour has one, and his boiler broke down. The BG technician was there for hours, only to discover the "smart" meter had just switched itself off. What a waste of time!
