I rang O2 earlier and found out that the 0800 952 4865 number isn’t actually from O2 itself. It’s a third party called O2 Advanced Sales Group, which seems to be legit. They apparently have some of our info and can offer deals that O2 don’t. Not really sure how that works though. Shouldn't O2 be giving us the best deals anyway?! I’m still not planning to accept any offers since they said they were O2. I just listened to what they had and asked them to ring me back after work, then I double-checked with O2.

i rang o2 customer care on 4445 using my o2 mobile and they checked the number with the list of their contractors. turns out IT IS o2. its a third party firm working for o2. the woman i spoke to offered to phone them while i waited on hold and i said yes. she got in touch with them, confirmed it was legit, and removed my number from their contractor records. she mentioned the block could take up to 30 days to take effect cos thats how long it takes for data to update between the firms. hope that makes sense, i used to work in telesales so the lingo stuck with me.

I rang 02 to verify the number through their system, and three separate teams all confirmed this number isnt from 02 and told me to block it. they might say they know people on your contacts to trick you into trusting them. just hang up and block the caller or they could steal your info and clear out your account.

They claimed to be affiliated with O2 and had the audacity to ask for my bank details! One chap, who had a rather thick accent, inquired, "Do you happen to have at least 50p in your account?" Prior to that, he mentioned, "I notice you own an outdated phone" (as if most folks don’t have phones older than a year!). He went on about some supposed offer for a new Nokia Lumina... Strangely, it seemed like he was aware of when I last topped up my credit! So, I wonder, is there someone at O2 passing around customers' private information? I can’t fathom how he got my number, especially since I only use this mobile for family calls.

most of the time when 02 ring up saying they can switch your plan, you actually stay on payg. anyone ringing about bundles and asking for your bank info is definitely a scam. same goes for the 0161 number claiming to be 02. they already asked for my bank details but i told them i didnt have my card handy and now they keep phoning non stop trying to get my bank info. funny thing is they cant even tell me who i am, even though my number's officially registered with 02.

Curious, I rang it back only to be greeted by an automated voice which claimed, "House Serve tried to contact you earlier today and will make another attempt later." A quick look online reveals they’re a sort of emergency call-out service for things like plumbing and electrics, so it seems they’re just drumming up some trade. It’s rather annoying, especially since we’re ex-directory! Isn’t there some rule against sharing our number? It's quite vexing!
