Today, I had a chat with BT, and I can confirm that the email and phone number are legitimate. However, we did inform them that the email raised some red flags. The upgrade concerns unlimited landline calls, which quite a few of us have been enjoying for yonks. You have the option to accept the price hike from a mere £10 every three months to approximately £23.50 every quarter, or like I chose to do, you can ditch the entire package altogether since we hardly use our landline these days.

I received an email that claimed to be from BT, complete with the actual four digits of my account number. It stated that there would be a rise in my phone contract charges and urged me to call 0800 917 4167 if I wanted to cancel. It struck me as dodgy, so I decided to reach out to BT using a number I knew was genuine. They assured me it was indeed a scam. Generally, BT hoax emails are pretty obvious, but this one was surprisingly well-crafted and had some accurate details from my account. Just a heads-up, everyone-these scammers are sharpening their skills! Stay vigilant!

I got an email that appeared to be from British Telecom, with the address [email protected]. However, when I placed my cursor over the links, it revealed quite a different web address. The message claimed they intended to terminate my current call plan and switch me to some sort of 'Unlimited Minutes' package, but for an additional £4.50 starting from the 1st of September. Unsure of its authenticity, I promptly exited the email and navigated to the official BT website. There I chatted with a representative through their Live Chat support. To my relief, they confirmed that the email was not genuinely from them and advised me against taking any action based on its contents.

I too have come across this email. After reaching out to BT for clarification, it seems the message is indeed authentic, even if it does have a rather generic feel to it. They’ve confirmed that prices will be increasing. However, I must admit, I haven’t picked up the phone to call that number myself.

I received an email that seemed a bit dodgy, claiming to be from BT and stating they were altering our call plan. The catch? We don't even have a call plan! Seems like a classic phishing attempt if you ask me.
