BE WARY! It's a total scam! I stumbled upon this number while using a converter site called www.video2mp3.net. It appears that the site has been compromised with malware. The page is inundated with deceptive install buttons and phony error messages. Even with AdBlock Plus activated, some of these nuisances still manage to sneak through. For instance, there's a pop-up that insists, "You must update to Java 12.4 to proceed with the video conversion." One of the pop-ups directs you to a page claiming you've contracted a virus and need to ring an 0800 number (0800 802 1523). The screen won't cooperate - it keeps making beeping noises and is almost impossible to close, not even with Task Manager. You eventually have to power down your computer to escape it. THIS NUMBER IS A FRAUD! THERE IS NO VIRUS INFECTING YOUR MACHINE. While the number appears to be local, I suspect it’s routed overseas since it mentions "toll free", which isn’t typically a British term. - caller: 0800 802 1523

I've experienced something quite similar! I powered down my machine and, upon booting it back up, MacAfee claims everything's hunky-dory. It's left me in a bit of a quandary! The warning appeared totally authentic, and I couldn't seem to exit the pop-up, which forced me to power off the device. Apologies for not providing more substantial assistance! :-( - caller: Number presented on the warning screen (Allegedly from Microsoft?)

It seems like an eerie call from your great grandmother has come through, perhaps you ought to give her a ring back!

I've received a rather concerning message on my other laptop urging me to call the number listed above due to what they claim is a serious security issue. I'm left wondering if this is a legitimate Microsoft communication or just another spam attempt. What do others think?
