Someone called me saying he was Stuart William from Garmin support, using an extension 405. He convinced me to buy some kind of life support service for my laptop to keep hackers away. Later, when I tried to get back in touch, the number just wouldn’t connect. This turned out to be a scam that ended up costing me £500. The number they used was 08006890416.

Got a call back from a number saying they were from TomTom, but I wasn't having any of it. Sounds like a load of rogues and scam artists to me. The number was 08006890416.

I got an HP printer back in June and rang their support line. They returned my call and ended up charging me £119.99 for a two-year warranty. Just today, someone named Michael Smith phoned claiming to update the printer software, then told me I owed £59.99. When I agreed to pay, I dialled the original number 08006890416 again. They managed to get into my laptop and when I refused to pay $400, they wiped everything off my computer.

They somehow got money out of my account with some dodgy claims about what they were up to. Asked for my money back but still waiting on that refund, haven’t got it yet.

Total scam, don’t trust it!

Similar to what others have mentioned, I was trying to update my Garmin sat nav. Got stuck in an online chat where they said an agent could fix everything, but it would cost me £399 for a lifetime subscription. Same old story!

Really got caught out by this online scam, thought I was dealing with TomTom but it turned out to be some dodgy “GPS Update Centre UK” (noticed they use the American spelling of centre). I ended up shelling out £179.99 including VAT for some three-year security software that I didn’t even need. The bloke on the phone convinced me to let him access my computer to “fix” it so it could connect with my TomTom for map updates. I’ve spent years warning my folks about scammers selling rubbish and here I am falling for it myself. Proper annoying!

I almost got tricked into forking out for lifetime updates on my 780mt, even though it actually comes with free updates. They claimed the rules changed in 2020 and now you have to pay. Of course, they told me my sat nav was corrupted and that’s why I needed the new maps.

While I was updating my Garmin maps, I got a call from a bloke who claimed my computer was corrupted and said he could fix it. Thinking he was legit, I let him access my PC. He then told me my computer was really bad and offered to sort it out if I bought a firewall - £400 forever, £300 for seven years, or £150 for a year. I told him I'd check with my grandson first. The guy called himself Jack and his number was 08006890416. Felt like such a mug afterwards.

I looked up the Garmin site on Google and completed a form asking for the model number, email, and my phone number. Shortly after, I got a call from 02039 504642. The person said they'd ring back in about 20 minutes. When they did, they repeated the same spiel and asked for my card details to buy some kind of antivirus software. I told them no, obviously. The next day, they called the landline again, pushing for my card info once more. Pretty clear to me that this is a scam!

I rang thinking it was TomTom about an issue with my SatNav, but the chat quickly shifted to him pushing Microsoft Firewall, claiming my antivirus wasn’t good enough. Feels like it could be a scam to me.

I initially believed I was calling Tom Tom about an issue with my sat nav. However, the chat gradually shifted and the person started pushing me to buy a Microsoft firewall, claiming my antivirus wasn’t strong enough. Feels like it could be a bit of a scam to me.
