After what felt like a million calls, finally got £45 ^_^ so chuffed with that!

Spent about 10 minutes waiting on hold before someone picked up. They only wanted my National Insurance number and the dates I worked, just for security checks. I was actually due a fiver back but since it was going to be taken off tax and NI, I just told them to forget about it!

I got a letter from New Look too. After they cut me off yesterday, I finally got through to someone today! They asked me some security questions like my address and the dates I worked there. Then they told me the amount they owe and when I should expect the payment. They also said they’d send an email to confirm the payment, which is nice because it gives you some proof. Fingers crossed this is legit!

So, I found the letter and decided to check with my previous employer. She called the company right there and they confirmed it was genuine. Turns out, the payment was due to the clocking system catching all the times I signed in early and left late - basically paying me for all those extra minutes! I gave them a ring as well, and they assured me the money should be in my bank by the 28th of May at the latest.

I gave them a call earlier and had a chat with someone from payroll, who said the whole thing is genuine. I also checked with some mates who still work at New Look, and they mentioned it’s on 'Buzz', but no one seems to know why exactly we’re getting this. Hopefully that clears things up a bit.

Then she called the number on the letter and chatted with a proper friendly bloke who explained everything. Turns out, over the last 8 years she’d collected loads of hours, and guess what? They owe her... wait for it... £345.74 after taxes and NI taken off!

They told me Newlook should already hold all the personal info, so it’s odd they’re asking for bank details and NI numbers since that kind of info is kept for a decade. They advised me to get in touch with Action Fraud to sort out if it's legit or some sort of scam. The lines are shut now, so I’ll call them first thing tomorrow and share what I find out.

The head office of New Look Ltd in Dorset has confirmed the letter is genuine; however, they mentioned it's being sent out to every employee and former employee because they can’t be certain who might be owed money. I left New Look almost three years ago under difficult circumstances - they underpaid me when I left but denied it outright. To me, this just seems like a ploy to update all our info on their database and possibly use it later to argue that we owe them instead. Best of luck to anyone handing over their details - I truly hope you get the money that’s really owed to you.
