I got the same text but didn’t respond to it. Yesterday, I actually popped into my bank to check if any money had been taken - turns out nothing had, and the bank confirmed it wasn’t related to them either (so I’d have proof if I needed to report it). While there, I cancelled a few old direct debits. Then today, I got two texts from the same number saying I’d cancelled some d/d’s. Weirdly, all three messages show as coming from 'Barclays,' which could easily confuse anyone who’s not too savvy. My advice? Don’t call any number you don’t trust, especially if it’s an 0800 that might cost you a fortune. Just pop into your bank in person to check stuff - it’s way safer than replying to texts like these!

Just got this text on the 8th of May 2017 at 8:05pm:

Barclays are doing a payment verification. Did you authorise a payment of £1800.00 for a PORSCHE? Reply Y if yes, or ring 0800 471 4624 if no.

I ignored it since I don’t have an account with Barclays.

Just got a call minutes ago, my missus answered it. Things got sketchy when the guy began pushing her for her PIN, which she obviously didn’t give. Always a good idea to avoid calling back on numbers from texts straight away. Better to find the official number yourself and ring them up to be safe.
