I too received a message of that nature but chose not to respond. Yesterday, I visited the bank to verify that not only had no funds been withdrawn, but I was also assured that it had nothing to do with them whatsoever. They even mentioned that if it came to it, my report would be properly logged. While I was there, I took the opportunity to cancel some outdated direct debits. Lo and behold, today I got two texts identical to the previous one, all claiming that I had cancelled some standing orders. Every single one was purportedly sent from 'Barclays.' This could understandably baffle someone who isn't quite as wary. Always best to check in directly with your bank rather than calling any suspicious number. I had my suspicions that the 0800 number might end up costing me a fortune just to ring. It’s far safer to disregard such messages and head straight to the bank!

Today, on the 8th of May 2017 at precisely 20:05, I received a rather suspicious message:

"Barclays is performing a payment verification. Did you authorise a payment of £1800.00 for a PORSCHE? If so, reply with a Y. If not, please contact 0800 471 4624."

I've chosen not to respond, especially as I don’t even hold an account with Barclays.

My partner just received a rather dodgy phone call. We got a bit uneasy when the chap on the line began to push her for her secure PIN. Just a word of caution: always steer clear of ringing numbers provided via text. It's far safer to look up the official contact details and call them directly.

I received a message from this number, which displayed as BARCLAYS, inquiring whether I had authorised a payment of £1800 to Porsche.
